- PGPaul GherbeMay 19, 20261.0ubject: Formal Complaint – Misleading Rear Wheel Alignment Charge (£85) Dear Manager, I am writing to formally complain about an additional £85 charge applied to my wife during a recent visit to your Protyre Newbury branch regarding our Volkswagen Passat (registration RE52 THF). The vehicle attended your branch for: * One tyre replacement * Front wheel alignment/tracking, which had already been paid for online in advance However, your staff then charged my wife an additional £85 for “REAR TOE ALIGNMENT ADJUS,” as shown on invoice number 171C010601 dated 11/05/26. After reviewing the invoice and the vehicle setup myself, I explained to my wife that this charge appears highly questionable. This specific 2002 Passat uses a rear beam/rigid-style rear suspension setup without standard adjustable rear toe alignment in the way your staff described to her. My wife returned to the branch and challenged the charge directly. Following this discussion, your staff effectively acknowledged the issue and accepted that the charge should not have been applied. Despite this, the £85 has still not been refunded. This situation raises serious concerns regarding misleading sales practices and whether other customers — especially those without technical knowledge — are also being charged for unnecessary or non-applicable adjustments. I therefore request: * Immediate refund of the £85 * Written confirmation once the refund has been processed * A clear explanation of why this charge was added in the first place If the refund is not processed promptly, we will consider escalating the matter further through: * Trading Standards * Consumer protection authorities * Public reviews documenting the experience I hope this matter can be resolved professionally and without further escalation. Do I need prepare my vehicle in anyway before bringing it to a garage?
Where our team members will need entry to your vehicle please can you ensure it is clean inside with no items laying where our team may need to be, such as foot wells. This will minimise contact with surfaces, helping keep everyone safe.
