  Rented a van for 2 days to move some stuff around for work. The Good: The staff were very friendly and helpful. The price was pretty good. Unlimited miles Damage smaller than a $1 bill (even though we are in the UK so maybe a £5 note would be a better reference point) was covered in the rental. The Bad: The van they first issued had filthy windows - not unexpected for a van, unfortunately. Not to worry - I will give them a clean at home before I head in to work. The journey home highlighted that an indicator bulb had blown. Again - not a big deal - would have swapped it at home whilst washing the windows and let them know when I returned the van. Got home, parked up and went to lock the van and the lock button on the key was broken and no option to lock in manually with the key unless I popped off the plastic cover on the door handle. Decided to call the Camberley site and discuss this with them. They were very apologetic and advised to bring the van back and they would swap me in to another van. Got back and they tried to switch me from a SWB low roof van that I ordered (needed to get in a multistorey carpark in London) in to a high-top transit. I advised them that this wouldn't be suitable. They also advised that the van had only just been picked up from Halfords for a repair on a failed indicator bulb... They offered me another van but it wouldn't be available for about 2 hours. Not a major issue - I had some time before I was due to set off. They swapped me in to a Vauxhall Corsa to get me home and back again. The windows in that were filthy too! Came back and picked up the replacement van - and guess what? Yep - the windows were filthy in that too! The woman handling the swap over quickly pulled out a cleaning brush and washed down the outside - which was much appreciated. That only highlighted that the inside was even more filthy. She called for the cleaner to come out and he did clean the inside with cleaning spray and a vaguely clean cloth. It was passable. Drove the van in and out of London twice over the next 2 days and found that the wipers were absolutely destroyed. Definitely wouldn't pass an MOT (Van was under 3 years old, but still - a basic safety inspection would have highlighted this.) There was no solvent in the washers either - just water. Coupled with the useless wipers left me unable to see thought the top half of the screen properly without getting out and cleaning the screen myself. The tracking was also off and when braking mildly vigorously (exiting a motorway on a short slip road) the van sounded like the front wheel bearings were about to collapse. Reported all of this to the team when I returned the van. They were very apologetic and asked if there was anything they could do to put it right. I said i would likely go back to using Kelly Van Hire (my preferred supplier, but they had no vans available at short notice) as there cans were always clean and in good working order when I hired them. The rep advised he would speak to his manager and email me with something as a follow up. Never heard anything. Got an automated survey email, which I clicked to fill out a couple of days after I received it and it but the link had expired. I might use Enterprise again - if I do, I will be doing a thorough check to make sure that the van is safe and fully functional before I leave the site. I know as a driver, these are checks I should be doing anyway, but there is a certain level of assumption that the business renting the van out will be completing pre-hire inspections to make sure the vehicle is safe to be hired out.

  Needed a hire van for the early May bank holiday weekend which was arranged a year in advance and have to say that from the timely reminder, completing the check in online the day before through to picking up this morning was very straightforward. Very helpful staff greeted me, were engaging, informative and their attention to detail was spot on. A very positive experience overall and now just need to get the van back in one piece in a couple if days! 😉
