Very disappointing experience – £629 bill for clutch master cylinder.
I would advise others to get a written quote before agreeing to work at this garage.
My 2018 Vauxhall Astra needed a clutch master cylinder replacing. I was not given a quote beforehand and was subsequently presented with a bill for £629.32.
The invoice shows:
Clutch master cylinder: £67.17
6 hours labour at £69.95: £419.70
Brake light switch: £37.56
Total including VAT: £629.32
The part itself was only £67.17, meaning the vast majority of the bill was labour. What particularly concerns me is the six hours of labour charged for replacing the clutch master cylinder. I have since looked into the typical time involved for this repair and feel that six hours warrants a proper explanation.
I have nothing against paying a fair price for good workmanship, but I do expect to be told the likely cost before expensive work is carried out. Had I been told beforehand that this repair was going to cost around £630, I would have had the opportunity to get another quote. No communication from the garage to say the job had gone over £600!! And although they had the car all day they still failed to complete the job in one day, leaving me without the car for 2 days. Awful customer service.
The nicest part of this experience? When I paid the bill, I was told the receptionist, Jan, that my car had been a "b!tch" to work on, and they "don't want to see a car like mine again any time soon."
My advice to anyone considering using this garage: get a detailed written quote before authorising any work and make sure you understand exactly what you are being charged for.
I personally won't be using this garage again.

On Holiday and got a screw in my tyre. Went to Avalon Tyre and Ken mended my puncture. He was really thorough and explained everything.
I've had a klunck noise in one of my other tyres so he took that off and found a rogue piece of machinery inside.
Would highly recommend Avalon, only wished I lived closer!

Really helpful and quickly fixed a tyre with a screw stuck in it. Would recommend. Even though they were busy they remained calm and friendly.
