  I originally hired a car through the AA after my own vehicle broke down near Sranstead. No cars were available at Stansted, so one was brought over from their Colchester branch. After 3 days I needed to extend the hire, so I arranged a visit the next day to the Silverlink branch in Newcastle to sort the paperwork. That dayI noticed the trim on the keys was held in place by something like a small piece of tac. So i went to the branch early to show them what I had found. I clearly pointed out damage to the car key trim which had been held in place by tac. I was also told I was missing a parcel shelf — yet the car was never given to me with one in the first place. I flagged both issues immediately with staff. I was told not to worry about it as only a bit of trim. Despite having the car for only 3 days, their claims department has tried to hold me responsible for pre-existing wear — A crack in top of the trim which caused the right hand side of the trim to be loose hence held by tac. But chrome already worn off the key and minor trim marks show the wear was not done in 3 days. Worse still: they’ve taken £500 directly from my account without sending an invoice, without prior warning, and without explaining costs. No notice, no paperwork, no discussion — just money gone from my account. An email at 10pm 14th Oct 2026 saying will invoice me when they have already stolen nearly £500! This isn’t poor service — it’s unethical and potentially illegal. Charging customers for damage that existed before the hire, then taking payment without authorisation or documentation, is completely unacceptable. It feels like a deliberate scam to extract money from people. I’ve complained and given warning the money needs refunded by 12pm 15th October 2026 or I will visit the Silverlink branch and get the police, credit card company and trading standards involved. If still not resolved on that visit I will issue court paperwork as this company is not scamming me for nearly £500 for trim already damaged and tac holding it down. Photos show chrome wear to both sides of the cracked trim and chrome does not wear off in 2 days! Advice to others: Document EVERYTHING before you drive away — photos, notes and a full video. Do not rely on them taking photos as they will show what they want and could miss other stuff already there. Date and time stamp your video and do every inch of the vehicle as to not be scammed Check your bank and card statements. This company cannot be trusted as the damage is a chrome strip on the key no actual key damage and something I could have hidden like it had been. But no I took issue to them to show them. The included photos show the crack at the top of the trim clear chrome wear on both sides which doesn't just wear off and other chrome damage from wear not 2 days hire. The car was handed to me around 9pm in a dark area of a services car park (I was grateful for a vehicle) The guy showed me how to start the car and left the key in front of the gear lever. I picked it up and put in jacket pocket. I did not use the key as it self opened and self closed with push button start. I only noticed the damage when swapped jacket for work and felt something ever so slightly tacky where the tac had pushed out the trim. That is when took the car to Enterprise early to show them ! As already stated I could have hidden the fault again. The photos show the crack and show the wear. If they did not do a proper check on the car before dropping to me (it needed a vacuum) just so I was not stranded they would have easily not noticed the damage as the trim was held in place. But I am not being scammed nearly £500 for trim on a key !This matter will not lie until money refunded ! Sad thing used Enterprise a few times with no issues and I was singing their praises for getting me on my way out of hours. I was not bothered the car hadn't been vacuumed as was minimal and clearly a fast turn around to help me! You have billed a customer who showed you hidden damages which is not right. The key clearly shows age related wear from the crack.

  Fab rented a luton van twice lasses in office are friendly and made sure i knew the details of everything before i left vans r spotless abit expensive to rent but for a new van i couldnt complain

  Amazing service. Staff friendly, helpful and great at sourcing electric. Second rental this year and both times being a good service. No issues when collecting or returning.

  Great service at Newcastle Silverlink! Quick processing and polite staff. Would definitely use them again! In fact booked a van for the following weekend to take my son to university from the same office!

  Hired a small car to drive my mother down to her brother’s funeral. Upon arrival at the Silverlink branch I was informed by the staff member that he’d read the circumstances for our journey, and had decided to give us a free upgrade to a bigger car to make the journey more comfortable for my mam. Brilliant service, they really looked after us - highly recommended.
