  *One star because Google won't register nil* Reserving a rental car online was straight forward. From the moment I arrived to pick up the rental car at Newcastle Svotswood Road, customer service was poor. On my journey home the car broke down. What a nightmare to get home. From staff to the deputy manager and manager no one could care less. I have it in writing they have processed a refund (March) and to date I'm still waiting to receive it. From Newcastle Scotswood staff to Head Office they all ignore correspondence. I've now filed a complaint with BVRLA. I deal with Enterprise Byker through work and they are a pleasure to deal with!

  Rented a Luton van with a tail lift. Offered optional collision damage waiver insurance for £20. (Beware normal car insurance policy excess packages bought online do not cover vans). I saw the £20 taken off my credit card as a ‘hold’ as it was the same card used for the rental. On return I noticed £25 was deducted instead of £20. Was told the salesman got it wrong but and here’s the kicker - the sarcastic young and short ‘sales person’ shouted across the office that £5 would be refunded. Needless to say it never was. I didn’t appreciate his sarcastic manner. The day before I couldn’t leave the compound as their transporter was unloading vehicles and blocking the exit. I was told to move the van. I said I wasn’t moving it because their transporter was in the way. I asked them to move it. I was told ‘it’s your rental - it’s your problem’ Complained on the phone about his manner and conduct but nothing was done. To the sales manager or whoever it was who served me back in February I sincerely hope you don’t get treated in the way I was.

  I hired a van for two days a couple of weeks ago for a house move, and unfortunately the experience with the Enterprise Scotswood Road branch was disappointing from start to finish. The first van I was given was filthy. The load area was covered in wood, nails, screws and mud. I asked for it to be cleaned, which was done. However, when I started the van, the engine management light was illuminated. It was clearly visible and should have been spotted during the vehicle checks. Whether it was missed or simply ignored, I don’t know, but I was given another van. Unfortunately, the second van wasn’t any better. It looked as though it had just been returned from a building site, with gripper rod pieces, nails and plaster dust all over the back. Once again, I had to ask for the van to be cleaned before I could use it. After setting off, the oil change warning light was illuminated. The assistant manager, Thomas, told me the oil had just been changed and that the warning light would disappear after a while. It didn’t. I drove the van for the full two-day rental, and the warning light remained on when I returned it. To make matters worse, it was one of the hottest weekends of the year and the air conditioning didn’t work because it needed re-gassing. Thomas apologised for the issues and explained that weekend vehicle cleaning is outsourced, so there wasn’t much the branch could do. He also offered a £45 refund, which he said would be credited to my card within 10 days. I’m still waiting, and I’ve received no confirmation. Since then, I’ve sent three emails about the matter, copying both the branch manager and the area manager into every message. I later discovered the person I was emailing was out of the office, but there was no automatic out-of-office reply. Despite the branch manager and area manager being copied into every email, neither of them had the courtesy to respond or let me know someone else would deal with my complaint. The complete lack of communication has been just as disappointing as the condition of the vehicles. Based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend Enterprise Scotswood Road. There are better alternatives available, and next time I’ll be using Europcar instead. I’d also recommend that someone shows the team how to put an out of office on their emails. Apparently the branch manager is out of office today too - no out of office on his mails either!
