Extremely disappointed. I was forced to pay £300 extra on the day of my pick up as I only had a debit card and not credit card to pay for the deposit. My booking was £230 but I was forced to pay an extra £300 on the day if I wanted to pay for the £150 deposit with my debit card. I used the same debit card to pay for the car when I booked online but I couldn't use it for my deposit in person? They only allow debit cards for the deposit if you have paid for the "premium" full coverage otherwise you must have a credit card. It's written somewhere in their terms but it's a sneaky way to catch some customers out in my opinion.
Furthermore, the staff member didn't walk me to my car to show me any faults or features I should know about the car, he simply told me to turn right and I'll find it that way. Car was not washed and the wing mirror on one side had the housing completely broken. The fuel policy was "like for like" but I didn't expect to be given a car with absolutely no fuel in the tank. The low fuel message popped up on the screen immediately as I started the car. Another sneaky tactic for them to get free fuel from you when you return the car.
The car itself drove smoothly and I had no issues or complaints there. But overall, this was a terrible first and last experience with green motion. I will never be using them again and will be sure to recommend people to stay away also from this sneaky company.

Awful experience I will not use this company again! Avoid if you want a smooth experience.
There was several things the car itself was very dirty when received, when the wheel was on full lock it made a sound, when putting petrol in for the second time the mileage available didn’t go up and the gps was extremely laggy.
Regarding deposit I never noticed that you couldn’t use a debit card so they said a charge of £240 initially when we refused then almost bargained us down to £140 which felt like they were ripping us off, personally after renting from multiple companies never had this issue. When you look online this seems to be a common issue people are having. After returning the car a day later I received an invoice for the debit card charge and it was described as rr+ which it wasn’t describe as upon collection. We were also overheard that they were trying to add on extras or ‘good deals’ to other customers to try get more money off them.
Contacted them via their contact us form which you see they reply to all the other bad reviews and they didn’t get back to me.

DO NOT RENT FROM GREEN MOTION!!!!!
Total bait and switch. We booked 2 cars at an agreed upon price. When we arrived we were told there was an additional charge that was more than twice the original price for “collision damage waiver”. Nothing about this in the original booking. We have every form of insurance: on our car at home, from our travel insurance, through our credit card. I would NEVER have rented a car for the final price they gave me. I have rented are all over the world and never seen this type of charge. To top it all off, they don’t take AMEX, making it additionally difficult.
Customer service guy did the best he could, but we walked away with a huge additional expense for our holiday. Very unhappy. Contacting the Trading Standards organization now.

I strongly advise against renting a car from this company. I booked and paid for my rental in full through Booking.com, including the vehicle and insurance. When I arrived to collect the car, the staff insisted I pay the deposit specifically with a credit card.
I have rented cars extensively across the UK and globally, and I have never been forced to use a credit card for a deposit. Because I did not have one, they used that as an excuse to charge me extra. The agent I dealt with initially quoted an absurdly high fee. He then pretended to speak with his manager and suddenly dropped the price by half, though it was still unreasonably high.
This is a clear, calculated scam. They know you have a holiday planned and are completely stuck, leaving you with no choice but to pay their arbitrary fees just to get on with your trip. They lure customers in with cheap online rates, only to trap them at the counter to extract more money.
To make matters worse, it has been over two weeks since my rental ended, and I still have not received my deposit back.
Also, the car brakes were not working properly, which affected our safety, which I won’t take lightly. Also, the petrol sensor was broken and has all been reported to the office; however, who’s going to protect my safety and my family in the car?
I highly recommend avoiding this business at all costs. You are much better off paying a slightly higher rate at a reputable company for true peace of mind, rather than showing up here only to have them invent excuses to squeeze more money out of you.

EXPLOITATIVE FRAUD: Fabricated Damage, Aggressive Upselling, and Deceptive Signatures
Avoid Green Motion London City Airport at all costs! This operation runs on a deceptive system designed to extract hundreds of pounds out of unsuspecting travellers through predatory damage claims.
I pre-booked an SUV via Booking.com and purchased their comprehensive Full Protection insurance. Despite this, the desk staff immediately tried to aggressively upsell me their own in-house coverage. This was merely the start of an incredibly stressful experience. They did not hand over the initial condition report until after I had already driven away from the lot, meaning I had zero opportunity to verify it with an agent present. The report falsely claimed "zero damage."
I drove the vehicle for exactly one day, did a single simple trip to the airport, and left it safely parked overnight. Upon return, the checking agent skipped the routine inspection process; he checked the fuel and mileage, and then marched straight to the rear alloy wheel. He immediately pointed out a microscopic scratch that was barely visible to the naked eye. The absolute precision of his movement made it clear they already knew it was there.
The scratch was under 25mm. According to official BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) Fair Wear and Tear guidelines, scuffs up to 50mm on alloy wheels are classified as standard wear and tear and are entirely acceptable. Despite this industry standard, the agent told me I was being hit with an outrageous £200 penalty fee.
When I flatly refused to accept the charge and requested to formally contest it, the agent handed me a digital pad, claiming my signature was purely to confirm the physical return of the vehicle. Instead, they deceptively copied my signature onto the disputed damage condition report—a document I explicitly rejected.
My card has already been hit with the charge, and I am escalating this to senior management, trading standards, and credit card protection. I later discovered a BBC Inside Out investigation detailing how this exact firm incentivised staff to target customers with hidden fees for minor or pre-existing blemishes. Do your wallet and sanity a huge favour: use a reputable provider and bypass this franchise completely!
