  We arrived and were told they had no cars for people who had booked in the past two days. I asked if they had other solutions and they said I could wait two hours and maybe a car would show up or they offered us a big van. They tried to charge multiple customers who prepaid, us included, more money on the spot for a made up reason (like “you didn’t pay for the third day”). You have to say “no I prepaid everything” repeatedly and then the charge just disappears. Seems illegal. I left with a big Vauxhall vivaro. I asked if they could at least comp us the gas and was told that the van is technically more expensive than what we’d ordered (the smallest option) which I did actually laugh at. I asked again and was ignored. I asked a third time and she said she could ask her manager. She asked the manager and told us we could bring it back in empty. Got in the van to find out it had less than a quarter tank in it. No fuel in Waterloo, they said. Wouldn’t recommend this place for a busy last minute weekend trip, and would definitely go prepared to push for what you want. Two stars because we did actually get where we wanted to go, albeit two hours late.

  A few scratches costed me almost £200. Stay away from this place. These associates really conduct extreme forensics on car rental returns. I am not sure if these people have incentives to find any scratches in any means. If you need to use the toilet, use it before getting there. These associates will keep you there for awhile. I will never use Alamo again.

  I booked a car in advance and on evening, the day before arrival, I've got a call that no cars available. Our plans were ruined.

  The worst car renting experience I've ever had. I booked a car to drive out to Wales for the long weekend with my partner. Upon arriving they couldn't match my address to my name on their "internal system" and thus could not rent me the car. They refused to take any proof of address (claiming these are easily forged - despite having bank statements / council tax bills / etc) and claimed it had to be done "through their system". I had been living at the same property for 2 years. Left without the car and had to rent from somewhere else at considerable cost and stress. I did not receive a refund for my £50 deposit. I have since rented cars in the UK since and at every dealer I tell them this story; it doesn't seem this is the usual way of doing things or indeed even a standard policy, and in all likelihood they did not have the car available and lied about it. Avoid at all costs - will never rent from Alamo again.
