First let me say this review is no reflection on Ishmael, he was friendly and did the best he could with a huge line of impatient customers and a broken computer. When we got our car, it was clearly just returned, filthy, and low on gas. As we started our trip we realized the maintenance light was on (air filter), the drivers seat adjustment knob was snapped off, the brakes squeaked like crazy, the windshield wipers were so old they did more harm than good, and the tires were beat up and due for replacement.
Over the week we had the car, I spent about 2 hours a day on the phone with Alamo. Many different numbers, many different customer service reps, many hours on hold. Not exactly how I wanted to spend my vacation. I eventually got someone who told me someone from Nissan was going to pick up our car and drop off a new one, asked me to hold, then hung up on me. After about an hour of waiting.
Finally we just brought the car back and when we did my partner noticed the rental was now missing from the Alamo app. They told us that one tire was damaged and we’d be charged 300. The same tire, brand new and installed is 160 and a nearby shop in London. So they want me to replace their beat up old tire with a new one and pay double what it would cost.
Alamo had no interest in resolving any issue when we had the car and is eager to take every penny they can as if they gave us a clean, non damaged car to start with. Both humans we talked to were lovely, this is no reflection on them.
We are grateful we didn’t break down in the Scottish countryside because now we know if you actually need help from Alamo - YOU WON’T GET IT! I’d avoid Alamo/enterprise whenever you can. If you must use them, inspect the car as thoroughly as you can when you pick it up - you’ll probably piss off people waiting but better that than be out of luck later! Sorry for the long review hope nobody else shares our experience. Next time we’ll try Arnold Clark it seems they treat their cars and customers better in the UK.
