I rented a car from Enterprise in Glasgow city centre and returned it to London Gatwick Airport. When I dropped the car off, a member of staff inspected it and confirmed that everything was fine, so I left. I then received an email confirming that my deposit would be released. To my surprise, I later received a notification from my bank that £250 had been charged for alleged damage to the vehicle. There was no damage when I handed the car back, and I was not informed of any issue at the time of return. I contacted Enterprise and spoke to someone named Samuel, who said he was looking into it. However, despite numerous follow-ups, I have received very little help or meaningful response. This has been an extremely disappointing experience. I feel the way this damage charge has been handled is completely unfair and lacks transparency. I would strongly recommend checking the vehicle extremely carefully and taking plenty of photos/videos before and after your rental. Personally, I will not be using Enterprise again.

Absurd experience! They didn’t accept our reservation because the person whose name it was under didn’t have a physical credit card which is antiquated and we had rented cars with enterprise in the uk without problems before. What’s completely ridiculous is that when we switched the reservation to another person in our party, they wouldn’t let us add the original person as a second driver, even though he had all the valid documents required. They said it was a rule they had to avoid people “tricking” the system and having the second driver driving the whole time. When asked what percentage of the time the second driver was allowed to drive they said there was no concrete rule, it was just made up by their manager. Had we arrived with the roles reversed in the first place it would have been fine, but because of this absurd arbitrary rule they insisted it wasn’t possible.

I have never given a bad review to anyone before, but honestly, I don’t have the words to explain how bad my experience was with Enterprise Glasgow Central. I booked a Toyota Aygo, four-door car, with a collection time of 9:30am. I arrived on time, but I was made to wait until around 10:30am. After waiting for an hour, I was given a two-door Fiat instead of the four-door car I had booked. I explained that I was travelling with my children and that a two-door car was simply not suitable for us. I asked if they could provide the four-door car I had booked. I was initially told that I could get a four-door car if I paid an additional £15 per day. I then spoke to the manager and showed him the booking and even showed him the image of the four-door Toyota Aygo I had booked. His response was that they didn't have any four-door cars available at that moment and that a car might become available after 6pm. I was only in Glasgow for three days. How could I wait until 6pm after already waiting an hour, especially when I had plans and was travelling with children? I was then told that I could come back the next day and ask for a four-door car, again for an additional £10 per day. By that point, I had no choice because I was already running short on time, so I had to take the two-door car. I completely understand that sometimes the exact car booked may not be available. What I cannot understand is the poor communication and the constantly changing explanation — first being told one thing, then another, and being asked to pay extra for a four-door car when I had already booked one. This was extremely frustrating and completely ruined the start of my trip. I expected much better customer service from Enterprise, especially from a branch located at such a busy and important location like Glasgow Central. Very disappointing experience. I would seriously think twice before booking with Enterprise again.

Rip off merchants. 30 mins into our rental, stopped at some lights, and with neither of us touching the roof of the car, the casing around the console behind the rear view mirror and the central roof light came loose. Minor issues, so we thought rather than lose holiday time, we would live with the issues. As the first issue was preventing safe use of the rear view mirror, we taped the casing up. On returning the car we were charged our excess (£100) for the issue. Presumably if we hadn’t paid the additional fee on collection, they would have charged us their standard £1,200 excess for this. Despite their staff taking pictures and looking at the car, they could see no signs of any damage that we had done to cause the casings to fall. So, despite any evidence, we are held guilty, when the issue is that they have supplied poor quality product. I’ve asked for a copy of the invoice for any work they have to pay for to correct the issue. Nothing received. Despite assurances from the manager on duty at the time and his manager the following day, a week and a half later, nothing has been heard.

I will never book with Enterprise again! To summarise, while I was on a trip away from Glasgow, I wanted to extend my rental by just one day as the family and I were enjoying a short vacation which we decided to extend by an extra day. As such, I called them on the morning when the car was due to be returned asking how much it was to extend my rental. Keep in mind, I was 3 hours away from Glasgow in the north of Scotland and my car rental was due to be dropped off for around 3.15pm (call was made at around 9.30/10). Long story short, I was told this wasn’t possible because the vehicle had already been allocated to another customer and due to the inflexibility shown by Enterprise, it meant I had to interrupt my trip, drive all the way back to Glasgow in order to return the car and then hire another vehicle from a competitor before continuing my journey back up. As I mentioned to Enterprise, I totally understood from their perspective that reservations need to be honoured and that my frustration wasn’t that the extension couldn’t be accommodated, but the lack of empathy and flexibility or even alternative solution offered to a customer who was already renting one of their vehicles and simply wanted to continue the rental. When I dropped the car off, the person who received it asked the usual drop off question ‘How did it go?’ and so I proceeded to tell him about my experience, but he didn’t seem to care about the fact that I had to make an unnecessary journey just to drop the car off (which could have been prevented), nor that I had to rent from a competitor. Nothing was done in that moment to make things right. It was in that moment I realised that Enterprise couldn’t care less about loyalty. A couple of days later, I decided to raise a formal complaint and although Enterprise initially acknowledged the inconvenience and apologised, the only resolution offered was a complimentary upgrade on a future rental, subject to availability. When I politely asked them to reconsider (as I found their offer to be unsatisfactory), communication became slow and ultimately my complaint was rejected. To make matters worse, there was confusion over the rental charges, with figures being quoted that did not match my signed rental agreement. I had to ask for a full breakdown to understand how those figures had been calculated which I’m still awaiting. To date, no deposit of any amount has been received, keeping in mind that the car was returned on 20th July and I write this on 30th July. Overall, I was left feeling that customer loyalty wasn’t valued and that resolving the complaint was not a priority for them. Sadly, because of this experience, I won’t be using Enterprise again and cannot recommend them based on how this situation was handled. I’d strongly recommend looking elsewhere. And to top it off, they’ve lost a loyal customer as a result of this negative experience who will undoubtedly spread word to anyone wanting to use a car rental with them. If anyone from head office is reading this, you need to train your staff, especially the senior personal on how to deal with customers in ways which will help resolve scenarios and keep them loyal
