  Hired a 24-plate Maxus Deliver 9 and can honestly say it was the worst van I’ve ever driven. The bodywork was battered and bruised. Nothing particularly major, but when you’re warned about a £2,500 excess for any damage caused, it’s hard to take that seriously when the vehicle is already in such poor condition. The flooring was also badly worn, with a huge chunk missing near the pedals. I’ve seen this kind of wear in plenty of vans before, but this was on another level — around an inch depth of material missing across most of the footwell, leaving a dip where your heel slips while driving. To top it off, the passenger-side headlight bulb wasn’t working, making driving at night unnecessarily difficult and putting the vehicle below the required road safety standards. Vehicle checks clearly need to be more thorough. On a positive note, I can’t fault the staff. I collected the van at 5:30 pm and the member of staff was polite and welcoming. When I returned it at 8:00 am the following morning, the staff were equally friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the condition of the vehicle let the whole experience down. The staff were great, but the standard of the van itself was nowhere near what I’d expect from a hire company, especially when customers are expected to accept such a high excess liability.

  I turned up three hours early to collect my hire car expecting a long wait but I was dealt with and was driving out within 30 minutes, excellent service.
