- LCLynne Cloud3 days ago5.0We had a belt break on our truck while driving up town and decided to go to Advance Auto parts to replace it. The truck was trying to run hot during that one mile trip so we needed to put the new one in in their parking lot. Turns out we didn't have our tools with us like we thought we did so we asked to borrow the tools we needed from the 2 guys inside. They were both really friendly and helpful. One of they guys took it upon himself to help cut the old one off and put the new belt on . They were done in about 30 minutes and got us on our way. I really appreciated the help because it was hot outside and without our tools we were stuck. Thanks guys!!!

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
