When we arrived at the Savannah downtown office, several customers were outside complaining — there were no cars for anyone. The young woman working there was alone, untrained, and abandoned by her company. I lost my patience, and I owe her an apology for that. But Enterprise owes her — and us — an even bigger one. She’d been there since 7 a.m. with no vehicles, no backup, and no plan. Customer service promised a call back that never came. Later, we found plenty of Enterprise cars at the airport, but the staff there refused to help unless we made a new online reservation. Enterprise’s failure wasn’t about one employee. It was about a company that left its people and its customers stranded. We’ll rent from companies that know how to serve both. Jerry Seinfeld was prophetic: Jerry: “I don’t understand. I made a reservation. Do you have my reservation?” Agent: “Yes, we do. Unfortunately, we ran out of cars.” Jerry: “But the reservation keeps the car here. That’s why you have the reservation.” Agent: “I know why we have reservations.” Jerry: “I don’t think you do! You see, you know how to take the reservation — you just don’t know how to hold the reservation. And that’s really the most important part of the reservation — the holding.”

I changed cars several times, had insurance pick up the rental agreement half way through, and finally needed a car to travel long distance. Keionna was beyond helpful, understanding and quick to offer assistance through all of those changes. The downtown location is by far the best in Savannah.
