I had to wait until this morning to go to Advanced Auto Parts to see if they had some the same size. I was able to take it off in the parking lot, they gave me a length of the same diameter but with some stronger reinforcement threading weaved in, and said it was free because it was a piece of scrap they found. Then they let me wash my hands in the back sink! Everything is fine now and the code is gone!
