Car was towed here after accident per my insurance's preference due to the ability to diagnose check engine light AND front end damage.
I was told to sign a release before "we can start any repairs or access your vehicle" the releases I was sent both times was blank with no details about what work would be done or estimate of cost to repair. The release states they will perform a pre scan diagnostic of engine codes and a written attached estimate. No estimate was provided and the car wasn't scanned.
I signed this so they could access the car and after a couple days was notified my car was almost finished. Once I called to see what work was done, (I was shocked as no one asked me if I wanted to have the repairs completed) They let me know they repaired the body and didn't diagnose the check engine codes since they had to hire a 3rd party, so now the car has to be towed to a mechanic.
The GM of the location spoke with me and said that since they didn't actually provide me a quote or option to refuse repair, they would not charge me. This made sense to me as I never approved anything or was notified they wouldn't address the check engine light (the most critical issue to me).
After completion, my insurance agent let me know Gerber refused to release the car for tow to a mechanic until I paid my deductible.
This location put me in a position of where I didn't get the right to refuse service.
In my work, I deal with a lot of people in this tri-county area and will make sure to tell everyone not to use this or any other location. I plan to contact my credit card company and potentially an attorney for small claims due to them violating their own contract of release.

My vehicle was towed into Gerber Collision as a non-driveable, insurance-directed repair. From the beginning, I had concerns about communication. I was repeatedly questioned about why the car arrived without gas, even though it was towed in because it was unsafe to drive. That set the tone for a process that felt more difficult than it needed to be.
Later in the repair, I was told the car wouldn’t be reassembled until late in the week, even though the completion date was supposed to be the following Monday. When I asked if there was a chance of finishing early, I was told the recalibration team wouldn’t be available until Monday. In my case, the bumper was removed and reinstalled, but no sensors were touched. I raised concerns that clearing the codes should have been straightforward, but the explanation I received didn’t align with my understanding of the process.
When I finally picked up my car, I discovered that a tire had been replaced but the tire pressure sensor was not. This resulted in warning lights as soon as I drove away—something any tire shop would confirm should have been addressed during the repair.
Overall, I felt the communication was patronizing at times and became argumentative enough that I had to involve the manager to complete the process. The car was ultimately repaired, but the experience left me uncomfortable and disappointed with how the situation was handled.
There was also a little bit of glass on my driver sidefloor mat, which was just weird cause I didn’t have any glass repair

After an accident, the insurance company we were dealing with declared our pickup truck totaled. Since we wanted to keep it, they had this complex, abstruse process that involved dealing with a third party, getting a new title and tag, etc. that we would have to go through in order to simply have the truck repaired and be able to continue driving it. Ryan, the general manager, prepared a new statement for the insurance company that included the fact that there was no hidden damage (mainly new panels and bumper, paint) and showing that the vehicle was under the percentage threshold price-wise and perfectly fine to drive after repairs. But, the decision-maker at the insurance company refused to change the totaled declaration. Ryan went above and beyond by then speaking to someone higher up at the insurance company, who corrected the problem. We were very grateful to have an advocate who knows the dynamics of the industry and was willing to go to bat for us when he recognized injustice. It was a positive experience working with everyone at this Gerber location. I hope I don't need the services of a body shop in the future, but if the need arises I would certainly choose them again!
