Worst Experience Ever – Safety Concern & Complete Lack of Professionalism
My recent visit to Express Oil Change was, without exaggeration, the worst service experience I have ever had—and it ended with a safety issue on my vehicle.
I arrived at 5:32 PM on 4/3 and initially found no one present. After waiting, an employee came out, gave no verbal acknowledgment, and simply motioned for me to pull forward without explanation. From that moment, the experience only deteriorated.
The technician (Dre) approached with clear frustration and visible annoyance that I was there. Shortly after, multiple employees appeared, all seemingly already clocked out. As my oil change began, it became obvious the team was either unfamiliar or uncomfortable working on my Audi. Three employees stood around my vehicle with the hood open, saying nothing, while Dre paced, visibly irritated, and displaying unprofessional behavior.
When I asked if there was an issue, I was dismissed with a casual “no,” despite clear confusion among the staff. Eventually, a manager (Reese) stepped in and stated, “Well at some point you have to learn,” which made it clear my vehicle was being used as a training exercise rather than being serviced with competence and care.
The process felt like guesswork not professional service.
Once completed, there was no standard inspection (lights, signals, etc.), and I was rushed out of the bay. When I asked for a receipt, it was handed to me with attitude. When I questioned the tense experience, I was told directly, “I would just really like to go home.”
That statement alone explains the entire interaction: I was treated as an inconvenience, not a paying customer spending $152.
When I raised my concerns with the manager, there was no real accountability just a dismissive apology and a $20 discount offer for a future visit, which is unacceptable given the circumstances.
The most concerning part: I didn’t even make it out of the parking lot before my vehicle displayed a “Drive System Malfunction” error. The location had already closed, leaving me unable to travel as planned.
I returned the next morning 04/04 and what do you know Dre is sitting out back in a folding chair by a car in the back parking lot. A guy with glasses who I had seen yesterday came out ran codes where they discovered something had not been properly connected or reinstalled. This is not just poor service, this is a serious failure that could have caused damage or put me at risk.
I have been a long-time customer of Express Oil Change at other locations and have always had great experiences. However, after two visits to this Duluth location, I can confidently say I will never return.
This experience reflects a breakdown in training, leadership, and basic customer care. Corporate leadership should take a serious look at this location before it results in a more severe incident.
