  I had an excellent experience with National. I had reserved a car at ATL and realized I reserved it for the wrong time. When I went to make the change, all cars were sold out so I needed to keep my reservation to be sure I had a car, but I desperately needed to get home earlier. I went 3 hours earlier than my reservation and had no problem getting my car. As well, I didn't need to stop at the desk, I was able to walk to the emerald aisle and pick any car. The cars were all waiting freshly washed, trunk open and keys ready to go. It was effortless and I appreciated that after a stressful night thinking I may not get home in time. 5 star experience. I may have found my new favorite car rental company.

  We rented the car one way from Atlanta to Birmingham. We were quoted $329.75. EXTRA CHARGES for one-way. I was charged on my final bill $522.53. When we received the car we had to immediately return the vehicle because of the terrible smell of cigarette smoke. The attendant apologized and gave us a new vehicle. When I returned the vehicle in Birmingham I was charged $.40 a mile. This had never happened before. Do they not allow you to drive a single mile? I spoke to the attendant and they said they would take it off. It has now been several days and they continue to send me the same charges with the same bill. I have been an Emerald member for several years and I will no longer be using this company. Much better options out there. RENTER BEWARE. The up charges are insane.

  I recently had an infuriating experience with National Car Rental at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta that left me utterly dismayed. After returning my rental, I noticed an erroneous charge of $624 on my card. I immediately contacted their customer service and spoke with four different representatives, all of whom acknowledged that I had already paid for the rental using a separate card. I even provided proof of payment to both National and my bank. National claimed the charge was a “system error” and assured me that a refund had been processed. However, to my astonishment, they re-charged me for the same amount—and the refund they did issue was short. The level of incompetence was unbelievable. It felt like a never-ending loop of frustration, and despite following every necessary step, a proper resolution seemed impossible. Despite being an Emerald Executive member, and rented many cars both locally and internationally, this has been one of the most mentally frustrating situations I have ever dealt with from a rental car company. I ultimately reported the fraudulent charge to American Express and will let them handle it from here. It’s clear to me that I cannot rent from National again if this is how they operate.

  Have always had great experiences with National Car Rental. Their customer service is always on point and they've always had cars available in the lot. I'm an elite executive member and I normally go out there and pick any vehicle in the executive lot and just drive off. There are at some points where there aren't many vehicles in inventory due to the time of the day or week or when there's something going on with the airport, but I understand the situations. I will always continue to use National as my primary. Thank you National Car Rental for your continuous excellence.

  Atlanta Hartfield-Jackson Airport. Car class I reserved was not available. Car I chose started but key was nowhere to be found. Had to scour the car but nothing and thought that perhaps there was a hidden place in the car where they kept the key. Drove to exit, told girl we could not find a key. She said it was in the car. I told her that, obviously, it was in the car because the car started but was nowhere to be found so what do we do. Her response was, "Look for it." She offered no assistance whatsoever, finally got out of the booth, told all the cars lined up behind me to move and told me to back up and go pick another car. Not wanting to unload and reload all our luggage again, we walked all the way back to the office. A gentleman came out and eventually found the key lodged in a crevice below the seat and removed it by contouring himself to reach it. He apologized and said "the guys that park the cars don't always put the keys back in the right spot", adding that "the girl in the booth is supposed to help find it". Shocked and disappointed at National, not their usual level of service.
