Parts are scanned in and scanned out—if your system shows you have a part in stock, you should actually have that part. This particular location showed one of the parts I needed as “in stock,” but when I asked about it, the employee said, “Let me see if we have it”—never a good sign. Sure enough, they didn’t. They called a nearby Auto Zone that also showed the part in stock, but that location didn’t have it either. I then went to a neighboring O’Reilly’s and asked if they had the same part. The clerk confidently said, “If the computer says we’ve got it, we’ve got it.” And they did. That’s how you run a parts store.
