I haven't rented from National for several years since they became so expensive during the pandemic. I rented from Avis since they were considerably cheaper. But, this time National Emerald Club came through and I remembered what I had love about National for so many years. Really easy, the price I was quoted was the price I was charged. The attendant that checked me in when I brought back the car actually gave me a discount immediately because the tank had not been filled when I picked it up. I had gotten used to having to call Avis just about every time I rented because the price quoted was less than the price when I returned. There were also constant problems with their cars, lights about needing maintenance, bad tires, AC that doesn't work in Florida August etc. Nice to be back, and please try to give us a break and keep the prices reasonable.

Third time in the last year I've been charged for Fuel despite bringing the car back full after filling up at the Mobil across the street. Every single time I have to call in and get the charged removed. I use National for work and have Executive status and never seem to have this issue at other locations. I will continue to use the location only because I have family in the area and visit often but I expect more out of this location in the future.

Terrible company and disgusting service – stay away!I booked a luxury car with National Rental Car, and the guy named Angelo at the counter was absolutely shameless. Not only did they not have a luxury car available, he tried to “sell” me a Hyundai as a luxury car, while speaking in a rude, disrespectful, and condescending way.
I’ve been renting cars from all kinds of companies for over 10 years, and I’ve never experienced such behavior.
On top of that, he charged me over $1,400 even though I never left with a car, and in an unbelievable act of arrogance, kicked me out of the car when I was already at the exit.
I had reserved a BMW, and he tried to push a Hyundai on me as if it’s the same thing.
A horrible company – don’t go near them! Save yourself the frustration, money, and humiliation.

10/19/2025 I called the 1-800 number and was promised a call back. It has been over a week and I have not received a call from anyone. I also submitted the employee feedback form I was directed to in the "owner response". Below is the actual response that I received. Needless to say, very disappointing

I understand what it means to have a piece of mind while traveling. At National, we want our vehicles to be properly equipped and ready for your journey--whether you’re transporting your family, yourself, or important clients.
Free upgrades can only be used on compact-full size sedans. Full size sedans are the largest vehicle you can be upgraded to using a complementary upgrade. You cannot be upgraded to a convertible vehicle with a complementary upgrade. Upgrades are also based upon availability at the location. Typically, the branch that provided you with the free upgrade is the same location that the upgrade would apply to.
The branch does have the right to refuse service. I have documented your concerns to the Regional Management team of the location for review and coaching of staff. I can assure you that it is never our intention to disappoint a valued customer and we do appreciate your business. Your feedback will be used to help us in achieving our goal of becoming the car rental company of choice. The management team will reach out if more information is needed.

When we arrived at the PBI location to pick up our rental we presented the staff with an email indicating that we had a complementary upgrade.
The local management team told us the upgrade was only available at the location that awarded it. We asked if we could speak to a manager. Eventually we reached someone who identified herself as the site manager.
From the start, the site manager was condescending and seemed annoyed to be bothered by us. She mentioned several cars that were in the Executive Isle that she considered upgrades. I told her that I didn’t view it as an “upgrade” if its something that I could have already selected from the Executive Isle. After a back and forth exchange regarding what constituted an upgrade, the site manager then said something to the effect of, "I wish I could help you”. I responded to her that “I didn’t think she really wanted to help us”. While admittedly I was very unhappy and it most likely showed on my face and in my tone of voice, I was not physically threating in any way, I did not raise my voice, and I did not use profanity.
She responded “we are not going to do this, we are not doing business with you today, have a nice day” then cancelled our reservation and refused to rent us a car.
I called the National Customer Service line and explained the situation to the phone representative who was sympathetic and said that she would escalate the issue to the person that the site manager reported to. I asked how long it would take for someone to get back with me regarding the issue and she said that she could not say, just that at some point I would get a call.
I have been a loyal National customer for over 5 years, I have always been either Executive or Executive Elite. I have never had any issues with any other locations and, in fact, I have previously posted a glowing 5 star Google review and have responded several times to the e-mail surveys recognizing specific employee's at other locations who I felt demonstrated an exceptional commitment to customer service.
