  Your people at the TPA airport did their job as expected. Extra kudos to the guy that welcomed me back, shook my hand and asked about the performance of the rental car. He was also able to answer my questions about local tolls since they are billed by license plate - $4.95 per day of toll road travel. A day earlier I called your customer service number and did not get as complete and as competent answer. She could only tell me that tolls would be billed in 2-3 weeks after the rental return. That was not a competent answer.

  Picking the rental up from TPA at 7a on a Monday was a bit stressful, there is no one available at the counter and no one in the garage. I just followed the directions on the signs based on my reservations but none of the signs say INTERMEDIATE they just say, Economy, Medium, Full Size etc. soo I walked around until I found a Toyota Corolla which was noted in my reservation as “Intermediate- Toyota Corolla or similar” and I was nervous I’d take the wrong car. Signs aligned with how the reservations are confirmed would be better. The car was clean and easy to drive, the return had like 10 people waiting in the garage to process which was quick!

  The Executive Area had ZERO vans or larger SUVs @ 6:30am. The Representative was polite and made a call but the end result was “it’s Spring Break”. I took the smaller car and then returned it a few hours later since it was the same size as our own car. I believe there should be an email alert sent to people with reservations like ours during peak times alerting us that there won’t be ANY larger vehicles available. Be transparent and honest with your customers. I rent from TPA and PIE a dozen times a year and never encountered this before. Felt like “you are our valued customer except during busy times - have a nice day”. First real disappointment with National in 20+ years.

  We received our rental vehicle at TPA -- as we were driving, the overpowering smell of drugs became apparent -- later in the evening, we went to a store to buy air freshener, only to discover our vehicle's tire had nails and some other sharp objects in it -- I called National and they suggested roadside service -- Since we already had an issue with the smell, we asked for them to replace it -- We were then instructed to return the vehicle to St. Petersburg Airport, which we did -- we then received another vehicle and it was acceptable for our time in Florida -- National went out of the way to be accommodating to our needs

  When we picked up the car no one told us that locking the steering wheel would not allow you to start the car. We spent 1 1/2 hours in a hot public parking lot waiting for roadside service to get us going. When we dropped the car off at Tampa airport my wife told the manager about our experience and he immediately made an adjustment to our bill for our inconvenience. Responding to our concern immediately shows a dedication to serving the customer. Our thanks to the manager.\ and to National Car Rental.
