The person in the service department told me that I would first have to come in and pay for the key, and then schedule a separate appointment to have it programmed. In other words, I would have to make two trips just to get a spare key made. She was very insistent that it could not be done in one visit. However, I called another Volvo dealership and they didn't require two visits—they were able to handle both the purchase and programming of the key in a single appointment. If I’m spending close to $1,000 for a spare key, the process should be as straightforward and convenient. Requiring two separate visits for something this simple feels unnecessary and out of line with the service offered by other Volvo dealerships.

And unlike other Volvo dealers they do not honor any additional overage of mileage for warranty work. They make you feel like you're doing them a favor and they do not put the customer first. I guess that's what happens when you're the only game in town. Next time, we'll drive 60 minutes to get treated properly and car serviced well.
