I have been renting from National for almost a decade and NEVER have I been treated as a first time customer as I was at the Sarasota airport location. I reserved a luxury vehicle for a vacation I’ve been planning for months. I never reserve luxury but wanted to treat myself for a birthday trip to Anna Maria. When I showed up …they had a tiny Audi A3 with no tinted windows or size. I went back inside and said that this would not work…it was not luxury. Nope…they looked at me like I was asking for the moon. They said this was an upgrade from a luxury vehicle to a premium luxury vehicle. I said little cars give me anxiety and I haven’t driven anything but a truck or SUV in years due to an accident. They showed ZERO empathy and said “well that’s what they gave you. It’s a step up from what you reserved.” They also said none of their vehicles had tinted windows…I then pointed out that every SUV on the lot was tinted. They fumbled around, sorting through bins of keys looking for another vehicle for like 5 minutes…I asked what the price difference was between what I reserved and one of their large SUVs. They never actually told me…they said they had a luxury SUV for $53 more. I was so upset at this point. I just paid it and left. No empathy…no acknowledgement for my concern and they belittled me the whole time…I am so upset that my hard earned vacation started with a horrible National experience. I told them I have status with Avis and would go there…they said..go ahead. Lol …OK…I will! And by the way…the windows on your LUXURY SUV that I paid to upgrade into are DIRTY and the front windshield is cracked! Terrible customer service.
