  We had been deceived by a previous mechanical shop which had led to transmission failure. From the first phone call Carey had been very helpful and honest about what was needed. He went above and beyond to make sure the transmission replacement went smoothly and worked properly. We appreciate the great communication and work to get our truck up and running again!

  Action Transmission on Merrill Rd in Jacksonville is where I will now refer anyone needing transmission work on their vehicle. Here are the reasons: Professionalism: My experience with Carey and Robin was nothing but professional, honest and transparent. They outlined the costs, issues regarding repair of my particular transmission model and didn't sugarcoat nor exaggerate the situation. Communication: At no point during the process was I uninformed. I was updated with texts, email and even phone calls when there was an update or information needed. It was always convenient, prompt and factual. Exactly what was needed, when needed. Quality: My vehicle drives better than when I first bought it. I didn't think it possible, but it's true. I credit this to quality work. Believe me when I say that I was listening and feeling for any possible issue. When within a 2-week span, your vehicle goes from operating normally, to catastrophic transmission failure, (without any dash-notification until the moment of failure), you tend to have a bit of PTSD, paying attention to every rev and shift. Not anymore. I'm almost through break-in and it still operates perfectly! Cost & Time: Competitive and very reasonable. In my particular case, the removal and teardown alone are listed at 13.7 hours. Add to it, that parts for this particular transmission (Toyota 8-speed UB80E) are on national backorder due to a high-failure rate due to a manufacturing defect that Toyota hasn't recalled, I was expecting the cost to be steep. Then rebuild and reinstall... you get the picture. This situation is the one where other transmission specialists actually recommended contacting the dealership as the repair cost and turnaround would be less than elsewhere. Until I contacted Action Transmission that seemed to be the case. Robin and Carey were the most competitively priced, and despite having to use non-preferred vendors, they managed to get me back on the road promptly and for less than the rest. Overall: Action Transmission exceeded all my expectations. I would highly recommend Robin and Carey for transmission repair, rebuild or replacement. Transmission work is labor-intensive and time-consuming work. Know these details and you'll find that Action Transmission is rarity these days. Thank you.

  Be very careful with the phone quotes here. I spent a morning calling a dozen shops and specifically asked two questions in order: 1) Do you work on loose manual transmissions? 2) What is the diagnostic fee? They said yes, and $130. I drove an hour with the transmission in my trunk only to be told the price was actually $250 because the unit wasn't in a vehicle. It shouldn't require a "mental leap" for a shop to connect a diagnostic quote to the specific part the customer just asked about. I’m not sure if this was a bait-and-switch or just poor listening, but it resulted in two hours of wasted driving and a lot of frustration. Work with them if you want, but be prepared to over-explain the obvious or you might end up with an unpleasant surprise.

  Carey in the front office was so nice and helpful. He didn’t try to add on unnecessary work or pressure me about anything. I live close and the guys in the shop offered to drive me home when I dropped off my vehicle. My car had been making a noise for about 6 months and has been evaluated by three other shops including a dealership but Action Transmission was the only one to give me a correct diagnosis. They said they do work other than transmission jobs so I will definitely be back to them for any future issues. Thank you so much guys!
