- KRKevin RowellOct 13, 20255.0My family and I were just returning from a great mini vacation, loaded up 5 suitcases in the car and headed on down the road toward home about 4 hrs away. We drove 1.5 hours into Fort Meade on route 17, we noticed the AC was not blowing cold. The engine light came on, the temp gauge dropped to zero. We pulled into a little store, a local named REGGIE asked if he could help us. I told him our issue, he was going to run to his house and get us some antifreeze. I told him I might have a bigger issue, so he directed us back about a mile to Advance Auto. We arrived fearing the worst. DAVID FRANKS who was working this day put the engine scanner on and found it was a temperature sensor. David took it upon himself to not only diagnose it, looked up where it was located, David grabbed the part & some tools and he changed it for us. I tried to help, but I think I was just in his way. With part changed, running with cold AC, temp gauge working, cleared the engine light and was as good as new. I thanked him over and over. David said “good thing you were near our small town, we try to help everyone”. BY FAR the BEST customer service I’ve ever gotten from an auto parts store. Grateful for this man, who went out of his way to get my family safely back on the road. I called him a few hours later to let him know we arrived home safely with no other issues. Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
