- SDSean DavisJan 28, 20265.0I went to AAP for a new battery. As I went into the store John was very helpefull right off the bat. I talked to him regarding needing a new battery as my vehicle was hesitating to start up. He helped me right away with testing my old battery, alternator, and starter. My old battery showed that I needed a new battery. I will also need to replace my starter soon too. My alternator was fine. John helped me change my battery and was very knowledgeable and kind. Thank you again, John.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
