- RHRique HladyAug 26, 20255.0So my car would not start today after filling up at the gas station; got a jump and immediately headed to my local Advance Auto Parts, where I always go - prices are very competitive, but I've always loved the customer service! Unfortunately the sales rep initially installed the wrong battery, he was mistaken on the year of the car and the polls for that battery were opposite of the correct battery; so he ended up hooking the + cable to the - post and the - cable to the + post; an honest mistake, it could happen to anyone; I'm in sales and I totally understand. Long story short, I ended up spending the entire afternoon there before all was corrected (all corrections were fortunately just fuses). The staff, Lindsey(mgr), Angel, and Brian (electronic expert from another store location) were great; being that I spent more than a few hours there and knowing Advance Auto Parts to be a top notch company, I inquired about some compensation, expecting maybe some store credit, which would have been fine with me...they refunded the full cost of the new battery, which was beyond my expectations, but just what you would expect from an exceptional, 5 star company like AAP! I'll never go anywhere else for my auto needs!!!

Typically a car battery will last 2-5 years, with premium batteries lasting 5-6 years. But you should replace it every 4 years for safe measures if you want to avoid any unwanted problems.

Signs of a bad car battery can range from the need for frequent jump starts, slow to start, cranks or clicks but won't start, dash lights work but the vehicle won't start, etc.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
