The person who installed the device was completely amazing. He shared stories about people who are in the same situation as me he made me feel very comfortable. He made me feel hopeful. The only thing that I have a big problem with is after the device is installed the driver still has a suspended license I guess for 5 to 7 business days or until the DMV gets back to the driverso there’s a hard time that happens to trying to get the car back home. I hope that in the future, the DMV or something happens so that they make it easier because to be honest it’s a set up for failure . If I get my device installed at the garage I have to blow into it in order for it to start so someone else technically will have to drive it back home, but I have to blow that is already illegal. That is already frowned upon soit was just very difficult to figure out. I hope that it changes soon for the other people that are going to be needing to install this device, but other than that, it was very smooth process. I trust myself and completing this program.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.
