From what I’ve gathered, the worst of all the breathalyzer services. Constantly charging me for things that were their problems, had four batteries in three years. Constantly had to call customer service and address problems

Avoid Intoxalock at all costs. They might look cheaper upfront, but that’s just bait. Their hidden fees, outdated equipment, and endless false lockouts will make your life miserable. You’ll get locked out for chewing gum, drinking a vanilla latte, or eating chocolate—and then they’ll report those as failed BAC tests to the DMV. That means more hearings, more time wasted, and more stress, only for the DMV to confirm what you already knew: it wasn’t alcohol. Yes, people make mistakes—that’s why these devices exist—but Intoxalock turns a tough situation into a nightmare. They profit off your hardship. If you want to keep your sanity, skip them entirely. Smart Start might cost a little more, but at least they don’t punish you for trying to move on with your life.

I have been on the phone with customer service for a few days now trying to get device switched to another vehicle. The deal ship is now becoming very angry with me because they want my car which was a trade in. I called to get work order submitted, finally last night( two days later) the order was put in. However the pst two days at car toys they have yet to even pick up their phones. Back in February I was told there was a technician who would personally come and switch the device out. But now interlock does not want to go that route. So what am I supposed to do. This is ridiculous. After all the money we pay for this the services are terrible. Customer service is terrible. No one wants to do any more then they absolutely have to for the customers. Please think about this before you decide on who is going to do your business.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
