please dont ever EVER sign up for this. my boyfriend has had this on his car for the past 3 years. his initial incident wasnt even that bad, and he doesnt drink. it was a one time stupid mistake and hes still stuck woth this for 2 more years. it drains our bank to very last cent, it glitches out and puts itself in random lockouts that charge him 75 everytime, its an extreme hassle to deal with especially when you move and have to travel hours to your agent just for him to service it for 10 minites and then you leave. THIS IS NOT WORTH IT PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF NOW.

Dont go with this guys been problems sense day one they send me to this shop in Lakewood Colorado called "gorilla" looking for a lady to install the interlock, well dont look like a lady it was somebody with a fade baggy shirt and pants looking like baby joker or something that had horrible customer service, well after that I made an appointment to go in for recalibration with her, when the day and time comes she said to come back in a hour because she was at lunch! and slam the door at me!, so I called intoxalock staff to give me a another option to get the recalibration done somewhere else because that....lady was not available so they gave an option of car toys on northglenn Colorado so i start heading to the shop when I get there they were nice and all, the guy ask for my keys to go outside and take the device out to recalibrate I go outside to see what's taking so long and this guy has my door handle on my truck completely broken! So I go inside to talk to the manager and the manager says they can pay anything that happens in the parking lot so there for they can't pay for anything even when his employees broke it and after saying that the guy said it was probably broken already when you got here, when I saw the guy brake it!!..Also with the device it keeps saying I failed when I dont. when I start my car with zeros and 10 minutes later when the device ask for a breathalyzer it says failed! I do another breathalyzer 15 minutes later and it says I passed! well that make any sense so I called intoxalock and want to charge me 75 bucks because is on lockout because of this, so this happened three times to finally getting a letter from the DMV that I have to present a new contract for a another year from intoxalock when I have six months left! So immediately called the DMV and request a court date because is not my fault is the device fault, I will take fully responsibility if I actually provoke the device to failed but this device is doing on its own for no reason,.I go to court and the judge pretty much says it doesn't make any sense what the reading in this log are reading so he dismissed the reading of "alcohol" and I go back to finish in six months, now today it starting again called intoxalock and want to charge me 75 dollars for the lockout, and I ask the manager why if you know is the device is doing this faulty readings why you charge me 75 dollars still and he say that's how we work, I said ok and what's the 85 dollars you guys charge me every month for? And he said for the device.....um rip off! Please stay away from this people unless you want to loose money and get headaches
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
