I was recently involved in a hit‑and‑run accident. After months of waiting, staying vigilant, and fighting with my insurance company, they finally approved me to get my car repaired. I made the mistake of letting them recommend repair shops and agreed to Gerber Collision, since it was close to my apartment.
Unfortunately, working with Gerber was exhausting from the very beginning. Once they received my information from the insurance company, scheduling an appointment felt like pulling teeth. Their process was:
-Either scheduling weeks out on the calendar, or
-Requiring me to deal with a slew of logistical hurdles that made it nearly impossible for someone with a full‑time job to take 2–3 hours out of their day just to sit around for an estimate.
I found Gerber’s procedures and policies surrounding estimates and appointments to be both ridiculous and counterintuitive.
-Why can’t I simply drop off my car and let them inspect it on their own time?
-Why must I sit through the entire process in person?
-Why hasn’t Gerber embraced the digital age, where most companies now allow online scheduling and communication?
-Why do their phone representatives consistently provide poor customer service, giving the impression they don’t care whether I choose to do business with them or not?
After a couple of days of frustrating back‑and‑forth, I decided to move my repair over to Caliber Collision, located just down the street. The difference was night and day.
At Caliber Collision:
-I was able to set up nearly everything online myself.
-My appointment was scheduled for the very next day—not weeks later.
-The staff were kind, professional, and reassuring.
-I felt confident leaving my car with them, trusting that it was in good hands.
This level of customer service and efficiency is something Gerber completely lacks.
Gerber, take note: if you want to compete, you need to modernize your systems and prioritize customer service. Otherwise, you’ll continue to fall behind.
After this experience, I now understand why Gerber Collision consistently has lower reviews compared to Caliber Collision. To anyone reading this: save yourself the headache and go to Caliber. The process will be ten times more seamless and far more worth your time. I refuse to do business with companies that don’t care enough to meet even the bare minimum standard of service.
