    I reserved a "premium crossover" vehicle, "similar to a Dodge Durango" and then only later did I notice that this did not guarantee a 4WD/AWD vehicle. I called to confirm and was told I could upgrade for just $2 more. Seems silly to potentially have a problem as I was going to Denver and heading into ski country, so of course I paid the extra. But when I got to Denver, and went to the pickup area (skipping the counter) there was no separate 2WD vs AWD crossover area. For Alamo to have squeezed an extra $2 out of me, with the bigger hassle of having to call them to change the original reservation, seems unnecessary. Otherwise they would have gotten 5 starts from me as the reast of the rental process was pretty good.

    Getting from the airport terminal to the rental facility was a bit of a "bus ride" but the driver was prompt and courteous. The rental counter staff was efficient without a lot of "upselling" of rental add ons. The car we rented had over 38K miles but was clean on the inside and drove fine for the rental period. The rental return area was huge but the car drop off was quick and simple.

    Using the "skip the counter" program and walking right up to a car at Denver airport at 5 pm on a Friday was so efficient, a novel car rental experience. At both pickup and dropoff, the personnel were courteous and helpful. In addition, the Alamo shuttle bus driver was exceptionally helpful and understanding: he did the airport run immediately after I boarded, even though the bus was not full. (A wildfire had closed the highway to the airport and made me an hour late, unexpectedly close to flight time.)

    Alamo leadership left the bookings open over the Xmas holiday erroneously causing a major jam of customers looking for cars they booked but weren't available. Had my "Go straight to the car" reservation booked. Passed a line of 125 people, then was stopped abruptly to another line of 75 people outside all waiting for SUVs. When add the higher price to the matter it gets very frustrating when you're trying to get to a destination 2.5 hours away. Fortunately the line staff was understanding and got me out of there after 45 minutes of waiting. I didn't get the same class of vehicle but at least I got something. Alamo is better than this.

    The skip-the-counter pickup experience at Alamo Denver Airport is genuinely convenient and a great concept. Being able to grab a car without waiting in line is a big plus. However, the experience quickly went downhill due to a vehicle class issue and very poor customer service. I booked a Premium Elite SUV, but was assigned a standard SUV instead (Genesis GV70). When I noticed the mismatch, I had to contact customer service multiple times to either adjust the price or swap the vehicle. Despite repeated attempts, they were unable to adjust the price to reflect the lower class vehicle. Eventually, I had to drive all the way from Breckenridge back to Denver Airport just to swap the car — something that should never be necessary for a booking error on their end. At the airport, the front desk staff member who assisted us was extremely unwelcoming and unprofessional. There was no eye contact, no effort to help, and no basic customer service attitude while handing over the vehicle and adding the additional driver. The interaction felt dismissive and uncomfortable. The convenience of the pickup system is nice, but incorrect vehicle assignments and poor service seriously hurt the overall experience. This should have been handled much better.
