Terrible service!!! This company TOTALLY Bamboozled me! $1682.63 is what I will pay at the end of the 12 months. Not at all what was previously discussed. I already had to tow my vehicle at my expense due to failing retests & NOT due to alcohol content but to the breathing method used to start the car. It occured while I was on the 405. Manual says device gives you 5-15 min to get to pull over to safety but thats not always possible especially on Los Angeles' freeways. So got locked out, had to pay tow out of my own pocket $200+ then the $45 service fee at the shop, then $75 resetting fee Intoxalock wants to charge me. Its ridiculous! When I called to request removal and obtain some type of refund. Intoxalock Rep stated that they DO NOT do refunds of any kind. I asked where is this indicated on the lease. Her response that there is NO law stating that they have to disclose. She went on to advise me to steer clear of freeways to avoid that situation again. I'm like SMH! So we apparently need laws in order to be an honest company. I ended up keeping it installed because the fees to remove it were double then the fees I mentioned above. If your lawyer includes a brochure for this company. Please go the other way. Screenshot of the fees provided. Oh and before I forget you are automatically enrolled without preauthorization into auto pay. NOT COOL!
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority.
