Because military service does not always allow for fixed travel dates, he did not yet have a return flight booked. The rental agents refused to release the vehicle solely because of the lack of a return airline ticket and the use of a debit card to pay for the rental. He offered to immediately purchase a return ticket on the spot and was told it had to be on file for 24 hours. He then asked that a manager be consulted to see if any discretion could be exercised given his active duty status. The manager refused to consider his active duty ID and status. This was not a matter of eligibility, payment, or identification — it was rigid, inflexible enforcement of policy with zero regard for military realities or common sense. Active duty service members frequently operate without firm timelines, and this is well understood. Policies are one thing. Respect and judgment are another. This location demonstrated neither. This is no way to treat someone currently serving this country, and it reflects poorly on Enterprise as a company. Enterprise should be ashamed of treating an active duty military member in this manner.
