Over the phone, I was told three times that it was 100% possible to rent a car using only a debit card, so I went ahead and booked hotels and motels for my four-week road trip. In reality, when I arrived at the branch to pick up the car, I was told they couldn’t rent it without a credit card. This completely ruined my carefully planned trip. Luckily, another rental company (Sixt) had no problem renting a car with a debit card, but this experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing.
