Don’t hesitate.. I read the reviews and was second guessing my decision. It ended up being the BEST car rental experience we’ve had. The staff was very professional and accommodating. I was traveling with 2 kids under 2 years old with car seats and a ton of suitcases. We ended up in a bmw x7 which was perfect and I had ZERO issues with sixt! We are planning a trip to Europe and I’m going to be using sixt again 100%. Family friendly, great prices, and I honestly felt like a million bucks driving around a new x7 in California. So far not so good. I booked through a third party site. I paid for that rental. Showed up at the rental car to claim the rental, and come to find out I was charged more than double what I had already paid the third party, with no explanation or approval for these charges. Not impressed - and thoroughly frustrated. I will never rent from this company again.

I had a very uncomfortable and disappointing experience with SIXT that I feel other customers should be aware of.
I arrived earlier in the week with a prepaid reservation through Expedia and did not intend to purchase any additional services. As I have done many times with other rental companies, I declined insurance. However, the front-desk representative repeatedly pushed insurance and framed it in a way that made it seem mandatory. I even stated out loud that this was strange because I have never been required to purchase insurance at other rental companies. Despite my resistance, I was never clearly presented with the option to decline coverage entirely only the option to purchase “basic” insurance. Because the reservation was already paid and we needed a vehicle, we felt pressured into accepting it against our wishes.
When returning the vehicle today, there were two representatives working, whereas during pickup there had only been one. We went directly to the same representative who assisted us originally and calmly raised our concern. She denied the interaction, implied that in-store audio recordings would support her version of events, and insisted that customers are never required to purchase insurance despite how the situation was presented to us.
After stepping outside, we realized we had forgotten to get her name. We walked back inside and stood in line while she was helping other customers. While waiting, I briefly approached the second representative, who was available, and explained that I simply wanted the name or ID of the representative who helped us at pickup. This second representative was polite and professional and told us to remain in line and that she would provide the information.
At that point, the original representative abruptly yelled across the counter to her coworker, stating that she had already told us to “call customer service.” I calmly explained that I was just clarifying the situation. She appeared increasingly agitated and then escalated the interaction by stating she did not have time to speak with us and by threatening to call security despite no one being aggressive, disruptive, or inappropriate.
What was especially upsetting is that as we were already walking away, she continued speaking behind our backs about calling security, clearly trying to scare and rush us out. The repeated mention of security felt like an intimidation tactic intended to shut down a legitimate customer concern. I began recording on my phone only after these repeated mentions while we were already leaving, as I felt uncomfortable and targeted for simply speaking up.
I expect transparency, clear choices, and respectful treatment from a car rental company. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of that standard.

This company is a rip off. I pay d for entire rental on Expedia and then would not let me rent car because I did not have credit cards, I only had my debit card with Visa symbol. Told them I would put $2,000 on hold for them but they still wouldn't give me car I paid. Told this day they still have not given me back money I paid for entire 7 day rental. I called corporate office out of Germany but no one would help me. STAY AWAY!!!

Another fantastic experience at Sixt San Diego! This was my second rental here this year, and the service remains top-tier. The vehicle selection is excellent, I was lucky enough to rent BMW vehicles both times and the process is incredibly smooth. Huge shoutout to Enrique for being so welcoming and helpful with my rental details. He remembered me from my last visit and makes the renting process super easy. This is officially my go-to spot in San Diego and I plan to try this company in other cities as well.
