This is a scam that takes advantage and not regulated because you cannot fight it anywhere.
I am extremely careful with when I have to blow and when I leave the car to wait for the timer. I felt like everything was too easy and sure enough one day I get a notice on the device that says I have a violation 3 saying I missed one.
When you call the help desk you get the same old “sorry I can’t do anything about it, have a great day.”
$40 to get it checked and $75 few for the violation that never even happened. Such a scam
The shop that installed it had nothing to do with it.

The shop was nice and accommodating. They could not install it in my type of car. This is the second shop they referred me to. This fraudulent company keeps charging me as if it’s installed yet, everytime I call I’m unable to speak with a human just the automated system. Use life safer or a reputable company, not intoxilock!

Absolutely horrible experience. I had this device for two weeks before I changed companies. The equipment wouldn't recognize when my car was off, therefore, wouldn't turn off with my car. The machine assumed I was still driving when I was long gone & it would cause a violation 3. To get it recalibrated cost $75 with intoxalock and another $30 for the mechanic. I would much rather go somewhere a little more expensive a month than have to waste my time and money on a weekly basis due to faulty equipment. Would not recommend to anybody I loved... or hated.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority.
