UPDATE
Brandon followed up with me immediately after posting this and has been super sympathetic to my situation. He has helped correct the issue and continues to give me support in this huge process with the courts that I'm still dealing with. I really appreciate it!
My experience has been an absolute nightmare. First, the representative sent in my paperwork to the place that installed my breathlyzer with my address misspelled and my DOB wrong. So, I had to call back, tell them the correct info AGAIN and wait for them to fed ex these papers to the breathlyzer place, which took 3 days. Then, I go back to the place that installed it, grab the correct paperwork. Next, they also sent a second breathlyzer as well for whatever reason, so again had to make an extra phone call to tell the place to send it back to them. Then if that wasn't bad enough, I followed the first step on the intoxalock instructions to call the mandatory actions unit and they said my suspended license isn't even in the system yet and I shouldn't have even had a breathlyzer installed to begin with until that processed. So, I'm driving around paying for a breathlyzer i didn't even need just yet. This process has been awful and stressful as it is and this just made it so much worse on me.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
