My 18 month experience with intoxalock was very expensive, customer service was always a hassle. Customer representatives would say they updated information and never did. After removing device they are required to notify DMV but they did not, that failure caused my arrest . After my review costumer relations reached out and handled some of my issues with the business. I recommend driving sober as this was a expensive and inconvenient experience. No worth the DUI, lesson learned.

DO NOT INSTALL!! Customer service is horrible, they forgot to ship certificate for dmv so I had device installed for no reason and still got charged for it. DO NOT INSTALL THIS DVICE !! Do not do business with them. There is a bunch of hidden fees. they use you credit card info and add stuff to your lease without your consent. Their devices are refurbished so they are bound to have issues. I already got locked out for no reason. PLEASE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. Don’t let the “good reviews” fool you. I rather pay the 219$ cancellation fee than to let them keep taking money from me.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
