The car and online booking experience were great. Then came the actual pickup and trying to get out of there. First of all the employee just said that car over there. We go over and search for awhile and there are no keys in the car, so then we spend awhile trying to find an employee to help us. They forgot to put the keys in. We head to the exit and it is taking ten minutes per car! I'm thinking at least I did the online check in and have this handy bar code so I'll be quick. After waiting half an hour in line , we get up there and they can't scan the barcodes so they are doing the entire check in process again by hand... took so long and never had a worse checkout experience with a rental.

Our check-in experience was just okay, but our return was great. The highlight of check-in was chatting with a woman who gave us the breakdown of where bathrooms were, where our car would be, and many other things we needed to know for our family. Figuring out the rented car seat was a bit of a disaster; no one was very helpful in that area unfortunately. Picking out a car was also a unique experience in that so many of them were parked so close to one another that we had to keep moving the car further and further into the "street" area just to pack everything into the trunk. You would think that larger SUVs would be parked in a way that suits using the trunk. But all that being said, returning the car was a great experience. Everyone was super kind and helpful, especially when it came to finding a luggage cart for us. I would use again, but maybe adjust my expectations for check-in.

The pick-up and drop-off process were great. Everyone was so friendly and efficient at their duties. Only two issues. One with all the various electronics options available. It may be helpful to have a quick guide as to "WHAT ALL THE BUTTONS DO" in these great vehicles. NUMBER TWO: Lastly, and most importantly: During the return process there was no way to inform Alamo of a potential issue with one of their vehicles. In our case, it seems there was a lose plastic trim (assumption) that banged uncontrollably once you obtained an average speed of 35 MPH or greater. The sound emanated from the front driver side. Note: It did not affect the operation of the vehicle. The vehicle was "Great." Overall, VERY GOOD JOB ALAMO.

I just used the new all-inclusive car rental facility at LAX...honestly, a big disappointment for various reasons. The Alamo bus from LAX now drops you off on a curb along the outer street, and from there you need to schlep your own bags across the street, back down to the "entrance" for checking in, and let them direct you up an escalator or elevator to the 5th floor to check in. But they don't tell you to go straight to the 3rd floor if you have "Skip the Counter" with Alamo. So schlep back down a different elevator (the first one only has floors 1 and 5) to the 3rd floor, and there's the help counter, and it was fine at that point...just follow the exit signs out. Dropping the car off is another thrill ride, with most online info still sending you to the old Alamo lot, but here's the deal to return a car - the entrance is near the southwest corner of this big parking structure...enter onto 98th St off Aviation, then follow the road around to the left and keep a sharp eye out on the left for a quick turn up a ramp to the 3rd level. Park where they tell you and schlep your bags again to an elevator to get back out to the same street they dropped you off and find the Alamo bus. (Hint to save some steps - take ANY rental bus to and from the airport, Hertz bus parks closer, they all go the same places at the airport. They'll ask and tell you to go to YOUR rental car bus, but there's no way for them to know.) Using a cane, with 3 bags for me and my wife to handle, made all of this arduous and not easy. No offer with assistance at all. I know they've only been open for 3 weeks, but ALL of this should be much better planned and arranged and with much better signage and assistance. (One key sign to Turn Here was behind a tree...) Hence, my 3 Stars instead of a usual 5 stars for Alamo. But hopefully this will help others.

Will be a first and a last time renting from Alamo/National/Enterprise based on this experience for any future personal and business rentals. Landed in LAX and had already completed paperwork for "skip the counter". Got to the rental garage and made our way to the Alamo section. With previous rentals with different companies, you are invited to walk the selection and take your pick of what's comparable for the class selected. After checking our paperwork, an Alamo employee stated our vehicle was parked somewhere else. I asked if we could walk the row to see what else they had. The response (paraphrasing) was along the lines of "this is all we got and you're lucky we got that". Ok. Took the car and left. The prior cleaning left the windshield with large streaks that was causing issues with glare, and the car itself I was not very happy with. In LA low speed stop and go traffic, it had the tedency to apply the brakes very harshly and non-linear, to the point I was concerned we were going to be rear ended. I had corresponded with Alamo via text and via phone call. No response on the text initially. The next morning I had called in, and after talking with the customer service representative I mentioned I would be ok with going back to LAX to swap but if there was anything closer, then I would be ok with that as well. I was told there was a car available at Long Beach Airport. We drove to LBA to not find the vehicle in stock and told to make the swap to a different class it would cost additional. Once again I spoke with the CSR, indicating that situation and that I am trying to exchange this vehicle due to a safety concern. They stated they were escalating this to a higher authority and I would hear via email. Finally received a text back, stating yeah you could swap the car. There seemed to be a bunch of miscommunication between CSRs and the locations. Finally received an email stating I would receive compensation for my trouble but not indicating what that was, or that I could exchange the vehicle. The time on my trip is finite and almost over at this point, and I had already wasted a bunch trying to swap cars once. I emailed back, asking if I could be compensated for a future booking so that I could be a repeat customer and see if this was just a one time fluke. No answer. Returned the vehicle and spoke with Dre who was at the pickup line. 5 stars for him. He did end up crediting our bill after hearing of the situation. Ultimately between all the missteps on the customer service side and what seems to be lack of communication within the company I won't be renting again.
