If i could I would give it zero stars. This company is a scam. They will lock you out for no reason. Then state it was some obscured reason your device locked you out. After you have paid all the fines and fees. They will also get your License suspended by reporting to DMV you are in NON-Compliance even when you are. And now they are trying to get me to go to DMV and submit FRAUDULANT paperwork. Stating they had an inspection done on my vehicle and device, when i have the print out from the shop stating otherwise. They are criminals and i will be reporting them. I just hope it goes somewhere. DO NOT do business with this company. they take advantage of you knowing it is required for you to have a device in your vehicle. They are extremely RUDE as well when you have them on the phone. STAY AWAY!!!!!! This is in response to intoxalock below... Why would i continue to reach out to your customer service, when just last night prior to writing that review I was rudely told that what i said didn't matter and to contact DMV.. No I think I would prefer to take this to the authorities since I know I cannot submit fraudulent paperwork I am 100% positive a company cannot either. I have the evidence and I think Intoxalock usually just steam rolls over people. It has been a nightmare dealing with your company.... this all while my mother just passed and I can legally drive till DMV is open... So i don't see any resolution you can come up with. UPDATE: I was contacted by a representative of Intoxalock. Isaias, he was very professional, understanding, and actually cared. I believe we came to a resolution that both me, him, and his company can be happy with. Not only crediting me for past unwarranted lock outs but once I can get ahold of DMV mandatory action he is going to set me up with a free inspection. I have a feeling anyone under Isaias might be getting some retraining or possibly new training. He handled the situation very well. He also sent me an email with everything we worked out. If the all Intoxalock employees conducted themselves as he did, they would have a monopoly on the interlock business. I will update further once all things are completely smoothed out. Update: I resend my 5 star review, once again Intoxalock has dropped the ball. After I finally got my DL situation figured out, Intoxalock was to schedule me an appointment at their expense to figure out why my vehicle keeps needing to be jumped. crick. cricket.... Nothing.. I finally decided to take it to a shop of my own. This shop determined that yes indeed the Intoxalock device is causing a parasitic drain on my battery. This battery which is a yellow top Optima, a $300 battery, I just bought new in Feb. 2025 is completely dead. It will not hold a charge. Now on top of the cost of the diagnosis I have to replace the battery. I have reached out to Intoxalock and have received no response. I truly hope if you are considering doing any business with this company you read these reviews and stop yourself from the headache. I have been left stranded over holiday weekends, missed finals for two of my college courses, could not pick up my significant other to take her to the Emergency room all due to this horrible interlock device. And with no cause or reason... I then had to pay to get my vehicle unlocked... Yes I will give them this they have given my account credit for some of my future payments. But I would not be surprised if those credits somehow disappear without any explanation after this review. That's the kinda company Intoxalock is.

I already wrote one of these but I keep getting these emails asking for reviews. The man who demonstrated everything was very personable, friendly and encouraging. My only complaint is that I had to watch several YouTube videos to figure out that you blow in til you hear 3 beeps, suck air til you hear 1 beep, then blow again. No one told me that. Hence I kept getting the “blow harder” message and the car wouldn’t start.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
