My sister popped in on a trip to bring our mom to the hospital in prince george bc from prince Rupert bc because her tire kept going low. They put a plug in the tire. The whole way to prince george the front drivers side tire still had to constantly be aired up. By God's good graces the tire held until just outside the hotel parking lot in prince george, until it didnt. She limped it into the parking spot of hotel and called me. I removed the tire, took pictures, and found that while the plug held, a hole on inside of tire. I found a great shop in prince george that helped me with installing different tires for her and did so for a very reasonable price and supplied a couple of used tires to match her tire size that were in better condition than hers. My question...is it common practice to put a plug so close to the sidewall and actually feel comfortable letting a person drive 600-700kms on a tire plugged so close to sidewall?

Learned something new today… if you have no clue what you’re doing, maybe don’t put air in your own tires.
Had a low tire and decided to handle it myself. Somehow ended up with one tire at 188 PSI, another at 300, and another at 237 before realizing something was definitely wrong.
Stopped by Fountain Tire, and within less than a minute of explaining the situation, they had me pull right into the bay with two staff members ready to help. They fixed everything up quickly, made sure the tire pressures were safe, and when I went inside to pay, they told me there was no charge.
Huge thank you to the team for being so kind, fast, and helpful you probably saved me from a very bad day!

Tires wear out over time, and how long they last depends on things like road conditions, driving habits, inflation, and temperature. The best way to know when to replace them is to check them regularly.
Common ways to measure tread include the following.
- Tread wear bars: When these are flush with the tread, it’s time to replace.
- Coin test: If too much of the coin shows, your tread is low.
- Tread depth gauge: The most accurate way to measure.
If your tread is low or you see cracks, bulges, or notice vibration, come see us.
What are some signs my vehicle is out of alignment?
It doesn’t take much to throw your alignment off—potholes, curbs, or just everyday driving. Poor alignment can lead to faster tire wear and poor handling.
Common signs include:
- Vehicle pulls to one side
- Crooked steering wheel
- Uneven tire wear
- Loose or unstable steering
- Vibration in the steering wheel
If something feels off, we’re happy to take a look.
What’s included in the seasonal car care package?
Our seasonal car care package gets your vehicle ready for the weather ahead. It includes:
- Fresh engine oil and filter
- Chassis lubrication (as needed)
- Charging and starting system check
- Brake inspection
- Fluid top-ups
- Belt and hose inspection
- Battery test
- Tire and pressure check
- Heating/cooling system check
- Lights, wipers, and overall safety check
It’s a great way to make sure your vehicle is ready for the season.
What do the numbers on my tires mean?
The numbers on your tire’s sidewall tell you the size, load rating, and speed rating.
Example: 225/55R17 97H
- 225 – Tire width (mm)
- 55 – Height as a % of width
- R – Radial construction
- 17 – Wheel diameter (inches)
- 97 – Load rating (how much weight it can carry)
- H – Speed rating (maximum safe speed)
These numbers help us match you with the right tire.
When should I put my winter tires on?
A good rule of thumb: when you can see your breath — about 7°C and below. At that temperature, all-season tires start to harden, while winter tires stay flexible and grippy. Booking early helps you beat the rush.
