Auto Zone you need to so better. 5 star would for Daniel and the young female working tonight but the disappointment with the working environment I witnessed at your store on the evening of January 2, 2026.
At the time, there was a manager on duty along with two employees—Daniel and a younger female employee. It was very apparent that the employees were exhausted and under significant stress. The situation felt uncomfortable not only for staff, but also for customers observing the interaction.
The manager appeared more concerned about potential loss of drawer money not adding up than about supporting the team. Prior to my interaction, it sounded as though the manager had been on break for approximately an hour and thirty minutes, while the employees continued working a very busy storefront. Daniel, who had mentioned he was just recovering from a severe cold and that it was late in the evening, was still sent outside to install windshield wiper blades for my vehicle.
Although both employees stated that they technically had the option to say no, the manager made it clear that if he instructed them to do something, they were expected to comply immediately. This created an environment that felt intimidating rather than supportive. When I offered a reasonable alternative and asked if the manager himself could install the wiper blades, he refused, stating he was not allowed to leave the store.
The tension behind the counter was noticeable, and several customers were visibly shaking their heads in disbelief. This was not a pleasant experience for anyone present. It felt like a toxic work environment, where employees were being pushed rather than supported.
I strongly believe this team could benefit from better leadership, clearer expectations, and improved communication. At the very least, staffing and management pairings should be reconsidered to avoid situations like this. It is disappointing to witness such conditions, especially so early in the year, where employees clearly appeared unhappy, stressed, and provoked.
I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used to improve team dynamics and employee well-being moving forward.
