Unauthorized upgrade, then chased me for the difference. Rented through Enterprise on an insurance replacement rental. Enterprise upgraded me to a higher vehicle class without TD Insurance authorization. When TD declined to pay the difference, Enterprise came after me personally for $675. TD Insurance confirmed in writing that Enterprise moved me into the higher tier vehicle and directed me back to Enterprise to rectify the issue. Enterprise's response was to send the file to collections. Additionally, the area manager called me on May 13, 2026 claiming to have left a voicemail months ago. No such voicemail exists in my phone records. When asked to provide documentation, he advised he had emailed his team about it that same day. For anyone using Enterprise on an insurance replacement rental — get every vehicle class and rate authorization in writing before you take the keys.

I rented a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car (17th Ave downtown Calgary location) on March 18, 2026, when the weather was cold and snowy, after my own vehicle was sent to a collision center and my insurance covered a rental. From the beginning, I asked for an SUV since my car is a Toyota Corolla Cross, but the staff insisted that a Hyundai Elantra 2025 was in the same class, even though they had SUVs available. My request wasn’t taken seriously. At pickup, I took photos of the entire car. A few days later, the front driver-side tire went flat, and when I tried to replace it, I realized there was no spare tire at all. After I called them, they replaced the vehicle for me at the Calgary Airport location. Everything seemed fine until two days later, when I received an angry call from Daryna Osaulenko, Assistant Branch Manager. She claimed I had damaged the rear bumper and told me to open a claim with my insurance. After insisting, she finally emailed me photos of the “damage.” When I compared them with the photos I had taken on day one, it was clearly the exact same damage that already existed before I even drove the car. I sent my photos as proof. What’s really surprising to me is this: don’t they have a proper vehicle inspection and estimation process before handing a car to a new customer? Shouldn’t the condition be documented and then compared upon return? Instead, it felt like I was being treated as a way to recover repair costs. When I raised this concern, I was told that the contract I signed stated the car had no issues at pickup. However, my photos clearly prove otherwise. This kind of response felt aggressive, as if the goal was to push the cost onto the customer’s insurance and see if it goes through. This experience made me question why customer rights and fair treatment are not respected. I’m sharing this to warn others to be very careful. Always take detailed photos at pickup. If I didn’t have mine, I could have easily been forced to pay for damage I didn’t cause. I do not recommend this branch at all. I will also share the email conversation and both their photos and mine as evidence. So far, I have not received any response from them.

I got picked by enterprise at the body shop as planned then taken down to the cloud trail location when the resavation was up at the forest lawn location . This was all set up through my insurance company . When they were doing the paperwork I found out that I had to pay enterprise the cost of the rental upfront with my credit card and was from my insurance that it was all covered .I told them no I would not pay and tthe I had to walk 7 or km back to the body shop to get my car and there was a winter storm with winds blowing about 70 to 90 kph this was not right this is not how you treat people . I am 68 years old this is bad bissness then I called the complaint number and was told that we did not mess up your insurance did this is treating people in bad form when the are over 65 The sad part is they have the market cuse they are so big.

I recently had a rental experience with Enterprise Rent-A-Car that highlighted a few areas for improvement. When my Toyota Land Cruiser was in for repairs, I was expecting a reasonably equivalent replacement. While I understand vehicles are often assigned by category, the actual experience can differ significantly. I was initially provided with a Chevrolet Equinox, which was similar in size on paper but not comparable in capability—particularly because it did not have winter tires, which is a serious concern in Calgary during March conditions. Although the team later switched me into a Nissan Rogue, which did have winter tires, it was noticeably smaller and still not a true equivalent to what I had been driving. In a city like Calgary, where winter conditions are a major safety factor, all rental vehicles during the season should be equipped with proper winter tires. This should not be treated as optional—it’s a safety necessity. Additionally, offering customers more flexibility to select a specific vehicle (or at least guarantee key features such as AWD and winter tires) would greatly improve the overall experience. I appreciate the staff’s efforts to eventually resolve the issue, but I strongly encourage Enterprise to review its policies around vehicle equivalency and winter safety standards.
