  Absolute worst experience I have ever had at a car rental place. I ordered a mid-sized and they gave me a compact car. We could barely fit our luggage in the car so had to go to another location and switch it at the expense of our time. We were not given anything to compensate for having to go an hour out of our way. National - a Corolla is not a mid-sized car look it up on any website.

  I had an excellent rental experience with National at the Nanaimo airport. I rented for a week to head to Port Alberni. When I arrived, I realized that the price reserved through Expedia was in US$. The attendant at the counter honoured a much better price through WestJet. A few days into my trip, the island was hit with a snow storm and they allowed me to change my rental to a AWD at no extra charge. Additionally, James, the attendant, pulled the car up to the front of the airport and warmed it up. Excellent service, spotless cars, fair prices.

  Easily the worst National I've had to deal with, and I've been to Nationals from Victoria to Halifax. Crazy set of additional rules and restrictions posted at the desk. For example "no gravel or unpaved roads" lolol. You can't be serious. Also I'm an Executive member (soon to be Exec Elite), and I was not given an upgrade at all (like I'm supposed to). I even asked about an upgrade and they said "things are tight". Pretty sure as an Executive member, you get a "guaranteed upgrade" as per company policy. Apparently this location didn't get the memo. They also charge for additional drivers. Another thing that's included in Emerald benefits. Not to mention my friend was denied a business rental because he has a Class 5 GDL license from Alberta. This is after he's been renting from other Nationals for over a year. He was denied service completely and turned away. Best part is they said part of the reason why is cause they're "on the island". Lolwut? Like...is this a joke? You know it's the same province, right? Same country? Same rental car company? So he rented from the competitor right beside National. In summary, this location is a joke and probably needs a good tune up from a regional manager at National. Simply unacceptable.
