My bad review is because of Jay Knudson, the representative I dealt with at first and he really tricked me into thinking he cared while I was in tears. He gave me a fair deal but after finishing my MADD class I got a way better deal from Smart Start but I had to spend a week trying to cancel the installation that was a whole month away. They said I had to specifically talk to Jay Knudson but I got a voicemail every 4-5 times I called and NO call back. Also, I recorded every call for the past week and for some reason the deposit amount changed on the automated call from the $1 deposit to over a $100 deposit all of a sudden yesterday.
Luckily I was connected to Evelyn this afternoon and she said she was able to cancel my account without needing Jays approval, like every other person told me they needed before. Mind you, I’ve never heard of these guidelines before. It seems like this place needs new and honest members like Evelyn.

This wa the worst place to get a breathalyzer from terrible. For two years I had to deal with company and it was filled with anxiety and anger. The breathalyzer is so sensitive I could use any soap in my hands or spray in car. When I called to talk to someone in the company they all spoke with such thick accents I could barely understand them. I would get lockouts for nothing and it costed 115 dollars. I got some two days in a row and I was not drinking at all. I also went through batteries like crazy 4 batteries in a year. I worked remotely and didn’t drive as much and it drained them quickly!!! DONT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!

I was told a price over the phone and once I got it installed it was 2x as much as I was quoted. Since it was already installed I was forced to move forward with it. Already off to a horrible start with this company.

Took some time but finally had the pleasure of speaking with Isaias and he was able to assist with some of the original issues I had. After my experience speaking with him I can safety say that any issues encountered will be corrected. Having an interlock is never fun but it seems like this company will make it as painless as possible!
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

Installing an ignition interlock device typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle type. Certified technicians ensure the device is properly installed and provide you with training on how to use it. Contact Intoxalock for an appointment and an accurate time estimate for your installation.
What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. However, the vehicle owner must provide consent for the installation. Intoxalock works with you and the owner to ensure compliance with state regulations and the successful setup of the device.
What should I do if my ignition interlock device locks me out?
If your ignition interlock device locks you out, it’s usually due to missed tests, failed tests, or state-specific requirements.
