I’ve been an AutoZone customer for more than 20 years, and my experience at AutoZone store #6209 with Danny Sletten, the store manager, was truly outstanding.
I walked up to the register and Danny personally helped me when I explained I needed a new car battery that I had purchased at a different AutoZone location—the store on 67th Ave in Peoria. We tested the battery and confirmed it was bad. Danny then went above and beyond trying to locate my purchase in the system so we could verify the warranty. Unfortunately, my information couldn’t be found, apparently because it was not registered correctly at the time of purchase.
When the line started backing up, I told Danny to help the other customers while I checked my car for more information. I found the battery date (10/23) and later located the original receipt in my glove box. Even though the system still couldn’t pull me up, Danny took the time to confirm that the battery carried a three-year warranty.
At that point, I fully expected to pay for a new battery and even pulled out my credit card. I asked if AutoZone offered a veteran discount, thinking maybe I could at least save a little.
That’s when Danny shocked me.
He punched a few keys, turned the screen toward me, and said, “What do you think about that price?”
It was $3.
I literally said, “What the bleep?” Danny smiled and said, “We’ll take care of you. We take care of vets, and we honor our warranties.”
In today’s consumer environment—where it often feels like big corporations look for reasons not to help—AutoZone absolutely came through. Danny was friendly, professional, patient, and genuinely cared about doing the right thing. He also installed my new battery on the spot.
Because of Danny and this store, AutoZone has earned my loyalty for many years to come. This is customer service done right.
