Pretty sure we were given a car with a known low tire, as it was showing 33 lbs when we picked it up for that tire while the rest were 39 and 40. We drove to our hotel and checked in. We came back out and the tire was completely flat. No big deal right? Wrong! They agreed to come out and change the tire to the temporary tire, but then expected us to take it somewhere and get the tire fixed for them. We were ok vacation and had tee times booked for 5 straight days. I declined that option, so the next option was to change the tire and return to the airport to trade it out. Again, I had a tee times booked booked for an hour from now. Also not an option. I paid for a car for my vacation and expected it to be in working order. They ultimately agreed to tow the car and bring us a new one sometime over the next 6 hours but we had to be there. So, we were told to call back after golf. We did so and they did arrange to have the car towed and told us they would have the new car delivered before 11 pm. At 9 pm no word, so I called. They had no order to bring us a new car. So sorry, we’ll have one out at 730 am so you don’t miss the tee time. At 745 no car. I called again and was told nope, it will be another 90 minutes. We ended up mooching off friends and rode with them packed in tight and just cancelled the car rental. It took 3 days , but we did finally get our credit card refunded in full. Yes, flat tires do happen, but it’s clear the have no plan and no desire to help you with any roadside issues. Beware of Alamo.

I want to be very clear that I fully stand by my wife’s review below—every word of it. Our experience with Alamo Rent a Car has been nothing short of unacceptable. Megan, while I appreciate your response, it ultimately feels like more of the same—acknowledgment without action. The link you provided directed us back to the exact same contact information we have already used repeatedly. As I stated, we have called and emailed multiple times with no resolution. It is now April 10. This incident occurred on March 23, and not a single call has been returned. Not one. At this point, I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and will be reaching out to local news outlets. If nothing else, people deserve to know how poorly your company handles a serious vehicle breakdown—especially one your own team seems unable or unwilling to properly investigate. I do want to highlight that the only reason our situation did not become far worse is because of the incredible woman who stepped in to help us. Without her, we very likely would have been stranded overnight in the middle of the park with our children. She showed more accountability and compassion in a single moment than your company has shown in weeks. We continue to be told that this issue is being “escalated,” only to hear nothing for 6–7 days at a time. That is not escalation—that is neglect. If you are truly serious about resolving this, you can contact my wife directly via her email, or better yet, have someone from your company return one of our many calls. We are more than willing to provide recorded calls and reservation details to support everything we’ve said. At this point, we are simply asking for accountability.

Our family of 7 (including three kids- 1 a todder) got stranded inside the Grand Canyon when our Alamo rental car broke down. We were told to KEEP DRIVING an unsafe car that was literally flashing “stop driving immediately” Then told it couldn’t be towed. Then told to Uber… with no Ubers available. We had no food, were stuck at a closing garage, and were over 2 hours from where we were staying. Not one person called us back. Not one person checked if we were safe for the night The only reason we made it out? A complete stranger drove all 7 of us 90 miles and helped feed our kids. When we finally got to the flagstaff airport, they suddenly “found” us a car—after telling us all day that wasn’t possible. Still no follow-up even though I have emailed and called multiple times. Still no refund. This could have ended very differently. They have no safety plan in place for if something goes wrong when your visiting tourist locations in their serving area .

We arrived in Phoenix on 319 with a 12 day rental for a Nissan rogue all-wheel-drive the representative at the desk told us that that is not what we ordered and that if we wanted an upgrade, it would be an additional $35 a day equals $420 additional we asked to see the vehicle that she wanted to place us in. It was a very small SUV it was not all-wheel-drive and the considerate representative in the garage took us to the vehicle which we had rented and from that point and we took possession of the vehicle noted in the original agreement all was good. We thoroughly enjoyed the vehicle. It had ample room for four and our luggage and handled the 2000 mile trip that we embarked on our bucket experiences without any further for any further surprises. Upon return the vehicle was returned with a full tank of fuel, washed and vacuumed and cleaned out condition, the intake attendant Dylan inspected the vehicle and said it was in phenomenal condition and our final bill was actually $60 less than originally quoted. We wish to thank you very much for the consideration of the garage delivery attendant and Dylan and we look forward to future business opportunities with Alamo.

While there was a LONG line at the Phoenix airport car rental Alamo counter for pickup- apparently after flights had arrived, it was understandable as Alamo had the highest review rating and the lesser of rental prices! The rental confirmation implied you could "skip the counter line and go directly to retrieve your rental car" IF you had prepaid. That didn't work for me as you had to have a QR code from the Alamo site. So back up to the line I went. Surprisingly, an Alamo employee (5' blond female) was working the long line to help people try to get to the web page with their QR code. She helped me navigate through my confirmation (I had gone through my Delta Travel amenities tied to my Delta app and Delta associated credit card); I got to the right place- took the QR code on my phone to pickup and got in line for my car. It took about 10 minutes (some of that lone upstairs at the counter had progressed to pickup by then). WE got a sufficient car for the rental group I had chosen- clean and filled up- in good condition - and we took off. 8 days later we returned the car with a full tank. And proceeded into airport for our departing flight. Quick, easy and streamlined. Very organized and efficient business - at least in Phoenix. We enjoyed the car and the experience and definitely will use Alamo again - even if there's a promo for more Delta miles with a different company! It was my first rental with Alamo and I will stick with them. Everything at the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport was great!
