My device continuously shut me out of my vehicle prematurely and stated my device was not serviced in time when my next service date was months out. Their representatives tried blaming it on the weather stating the heat cause it. That’s was false, it did it in the winter as well. The device also drained my battery costing me a new one and Intxl still charged me the lockout fee on the device when it was their fault. I would then try and call and each time it would be harder and harder for me to get through to a representative. I would then attempt to speak to the live chat and it would immediately close the chat once I provided what was wrong and my information. I am definitely going to seek legal action as it has cost me financial damages while also impacting my work.

Customer service is horrible. When I purchased the system Paul gave me a phone number and extension to reach him with any questions I may have. Phone number is to a call center. They don't have extension capabilities.Supervisor said it's "impossible to reach Paul once the transaction went thru" from "sales". It's a call center. I don't believe it's in the U.S. Paul also stated that I would get a rebate because his quote and the one I paid for was a $200 difference. That hasn't happened. It's almost near Impossible to talk to anyone at the "call center". All automated unless you have a hour to waste. Nobody knows who Paul is. The device itself is huge and barely fits in my "man hands" as I try to navigate and blow my brains out. It's ridiculous. But they won't call you back. I can't afford to pay to have the device pulled and to have a new provider install a more upgraded version. Certainly, I will never, never recommend this product to anyone. Huge waste of time and money. I will have it removed once I have saved enough to do so.

Crawford's auto did a great job installing in my truck. The first appointment I had with them through no fault of theirs they did not have the interlock, so I had to reschedule. They knew that I had to drive about 32 miles to get there so they got my truck in Pronto. Joe told me it would be ready by 10:30. He called at 10:05. Not only that but I had an issue a mile from their shop. I called and they sent Doug out to help and got me going. I highly recommend Crawford auto they went the extra mile.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

Ignition interlock devices can be installed at certified service centers nationwide. Intoxalock offers a convenient network of locations and helps you schedule an installation appointment near you. Installing an ignition interlock device typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle type. Certified technicians ensure the device is properly installed and provide you with training on how to use it. Contact Intoxalock for an appointment and an accurate time estimate for your installation.
What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. However, the vehicle owner must provide consent for the installation. Intoxalock works with you and the owner to ensure compliance with state regulations and the successful setup of the device.
What should I do if my ignition interlock device locks me out?
If your ignition interlock device locks you out, it’s usually due to missed tests, failed tests, or state-specific requirements.
