I’m not someone who typically leaves negative reviews, but after dealing with Gander RV from start to finish, I feel obligated to warn others.
In 2022, we purchased a camper advertised at $22,000. By the time all the “extras,” hidden fees, and pushed insurance products were added, we walked out paying nearly $29,000. That alone should have been a red flag. Then, when we went to pick it up, we were told we couldn’t take OUR camper home unless our truck had a brake controller—even though it was an ultra-light camper. So after paying thousands of dollars, we had to scramble to find a different vehicle just to pick up something we already owned.
It only got worse from there. The first time we used the camper, the electrical system barely worked—only one outlet functioned—and the hot water heater was leaking. While they did fix those issues fairly quickly, the fact that it left their lot in that condition says a lot about their quality control.
After two years, we decided to sell it. Gander contacted us and said they could handle the sale, estimating it would list for around $16,000. We agreed and hauled it to their Little Rock location. A week later, I checked online and saw they had it listed for $24,000—$2,000 MORE than what we originally paid for it. Completely unrealistic and, frankly, misleading. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t sell. Instead of any real communication, I eventually got a voicemail telling me to come pick it up.
While it was sitting on their lot, I was told it would be winterized. That turned out to be false. After getting it back and later selling it myself, it was clear no winterization had been done.
Then came the final frustrations. When I picked up the camper, my license plate was missing. I was initially told I never brought one in—which was completely untrue. After going back and forth, they suddenly “found” the answer and admitted they had destroyed it. That’s not just careless—that’s unacceptable.
Trying to cancel the insurance and warranties after I sold the camper was another headache. Getting anyone in finance on the phone was nearly impossible. When I finally reached someone, I was told to wait for an email with instructions. That email never came. Instead, days later, I randomly received an insurance check in the mail with zero communication.
From inflated pricing and unnecessary add-ons, to poor service, lack of accountability, and terrible communication—this entire experience was frustrating at every step. I will not be doing business with Gander RV again, and I strongly recommend others look elsewhere before putting themselves through the same ordeal.
