A few days ago I went in this store and purchased 2 cans of Rustoleum spray paint. A can of Silver Chrome and a can of Matte Blue. Both were to be sprayed over Rustoleum 2X primer. The silver chrome sprayed beautifully. 1 coat of it applied over the primer leveled out and dried glossy with a nice smooth finish, which looked great. The Matte Blue was a headache from the first press of the spray nozzle. Surface prep for the Matte Blue was step by step, exactly the same as the Silver Chrome. I could tell a difference in the spray pattern as it exited the nozzle of the can. It wouldn't release a super fine spray mist like the other can did. It was coming out in much larger chunky mist droplets. It looked like it was spit on the surface by a human mouth, instead of coming from the nozzle of the a spray can. I adjusted my applying speed to allow for a complete and even application. It helped to slow down, but it still didn't want to apply evenly. Then as the Blue started to dry, it began to twist and crack open or wrinkle. It was a ugly poor finish compared to the glassy smooth sheen of the Silver Chrome. I mentally went back over my prep procedures and couldn't think of one thing I did incorrectly. Polystyrene surface was washed and then thoroughly dried in a dehydrating unit for 1 hour set at 95 Degrees. I was completely shocked at the wrinkled splits and cracks. After some thought and trying to determine what caused this problem, I decided to sand it all down and restart from the beginning. After an hour or so of surface prep time, it was time to paint. I finished shooting Blue on the polystyrene parts with no signs of it happening again. I placed everything on a drying tray for the dehydrator and set the timer and temp. When I heard the timer shutdown the unit, I went to bed because it was 230am. When I pulled the parts out of the dryer next morning, I was horrified. The parts were a really light blue color instead of the Medium Matte Blue I expected. And 1 piece had wrinkles, and cracks split open. The lightness in the color was from a white film over the finish. This had obviously come from inside the rattle paint can. I was very disappointed and confused. I had used an entire can of spray paint, and wasn't anywhere near the finish I wanted for it. I took pictures of the failed paint job and took the can back to the store and explained everything to a red shirt employee and showed him pictures of the bad paint finish, which I had with me for proof. I felt like it was probably a bad can of Matte Blue paint. I asked the young fellow if they could swap it for a new can to try and get the right finish. He said no sir. I said so I have to buy another 15 dollar can of paint to finish my project? He said yes sir. I retired from a 30 plus year career in the parts business in 2023. I took a job as PSM at this store, when I moved to Searcy over 20 years ago. It seems AutoZones customer service policy wasn't what it used to be. I told him I would rather switch colors and go buy paint from one of your competitors, than do business with someone who won't stand behind a product that was obviously at fault. I've been using spray paint in rattle cans for over 10 years and this is my first time seeing this happen. I was gonna purchase a tack rag and a couple more cans of primer with the paint replacement too. But after I was just denied satisfaction with my AutoZone experience, AutoZone will no longer be considered by myself, when I need to make purchases. I'll drive to Little Rock and shop before I will ever step foot in that store again. Happy Saturday Folks! I've got to go paint and paint supply shopping. And that 1 star rating was way way more, than I think you people deserve!! ✌️😎✌️
