I rented a mid-size SUV to help move some of my son's belongings to his place in Florida. Even though I reserved a mid-size SUV, the staff at this location listened to why I needed the vehicle and let me see what they had on the lot and available to rent that would suit my needs.
Unfortunately, the vehicle I rented had a couple issues, the big one being the smell. When I first got into it, I could smell a lot of deodorizer and cleaner but when I got in the car very early the next morning to start my drive, the car smelled very very strongly of old cig smoke. Since it was 6 AM and my trip was time sensitive, I ignored the smell and went ahead with my drive to FL and back. When I got back home, I realized everything I wore and had in the car smelled of old cig smoke. Ew!
When I returned the car, I told them right away, "I don't know if you guys know it but that car SMELLS." They were completely shocked and apologized all over the place. The first thing they said was, "What can we do to make this right for you?" I was completely surprised! I was expecting what other companies have told me after I complained: "Sorry. We'll try to do better next time." but not this staff. They wanted to make things right. I told them that I didn't want or need any compensation. The car did what I needed it to do and I was fine.
3 hours later, their customer service center called me to discuss the issues I had with the car. They immediately told me they were discounting my rental by half to make up for the inconvenience and that they hoped I would rent from them again soon.
It was a very nice gesture of the company and really helps them stand out from the crowd. (If you want to see what I mean, go read the reviews of other rental companies over at the airport.) The local staff could have brushed this incident under the rug, but they didn't and I really appreciate that touch of customer service.
